My Favourite Recipes

I have been asked many times for my favourite recipes in a blog post so here are some for you! Please remember that it is your responsibility to check syn values as these can change over time along with healthy extras if following the Slimming World plan. These recipes are not always the complete meal and sometimes are served with other things so do remember to check you have the right proportions on your plate for the best losses, if in doubt ask your Slimming World Consultant! A lot of the recipes include garlic which I often substitute for "Lazy Garlic" for convenience, I use the variety in vinegar so it is syn free but please check yours.

Money saving and eating healthily on a budget

So, its that time of year where everyone is watching their pennies! Maybe you overspent at Christmas, you're saving up for a holiday, you're trying to get your finances in order, or you have a sudden cost you didn't envisage such as problems with your car or a speeding fine! Whatever it is the chances are that as you are reading this, like me, you are thinking that you need to spend at little as you can on food whilst still eating healthily! It is easy to use the excuse of cost to mean you eat rubbish foods, I have done it many times over the years but the reality is that with the right foods and meal plans you can stick to a healthy eating plan like Slimming World and eat well on a budget!

Christmas Survival Tips

So, people often ask me for tips as I have lost so much weight and even lost over Christmas last year! Everyone is different and everyone's body is different but I hope that my tips will help someone to not have the gain they could have had in January. Even if it is a gain there are ways to try to do the best you cam and minimise that rather than giving up completely.

18th December Friday Favourites!

Hello! It is now only a week until Christmas and I expect everyone is too busy to read much so I will try to keep it brief! This is the time of year where many people decide to go "off plan" and start again in the new year. While this is a personal decision, my advice would be to stay on plan the best you can otherwise when you get on the scales in the new year the task will seem more daunting if you have gained a lot! Why not have a day or two off plan and the rest of the time try to be as good as you can and sensible when you cant to minimise the task ahead in January! The choice of course is yours! I intend to stay on plan pretty much all over Christmas though with the odd extra maybe if we go out anywhere.

15 Minutes of fame or inspiring others.....why I shared my story in the media!

Over the last few days my weight loss story has been in a national newspaper (The Daily Star - see photo) and on some newspaper webpages (The Sun, The Mirror, The Irish Mirror, The Daily MailThe Express and The Daily Star), it has also been shared across various websites and social media. As I expected this has led to me receiving many comments about my story both good and bad so I thought I would use this weeks blog post to answer some of these comments and explain why I shared my story.

Sticks and Stones......

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me"

We all know that rhyme from our school days don't we? It is often told to children to encourage them not to retaliate and get upset when called names at school, the reality though of course as we all know is that names do hurt. I doubt there is anyone out there who hasn't been called a negative name at some point in their life, usually in childhood, because of the colour of your hair, your height, your weight, wearing glasses and many other reasons. Most name calling is predominantly done by children to children however this is not always the case.

4th December Friday Favourites!

Hello again, here we are on Friday with my roundup of my favourites this week! It has been a bit of a hectic week here as I have had Ben off school unwell for two days, appointments etc and of course all the usual things to do! I still have not ventured into the garage for the Christmas tree and only decided this morning what to wear for a Christmas party I am going to tonight! Clearly organisation this week has not been my strong point!

Recognising the new you and learning to love yourself

I think this is a subject I will be revisiting many times throughout my blog because this is something I find hard myself though I will share with you all how it is for me and anything I have found helpful and tips I have had from others in the hope that others find this process easier!
When you have been overweight or obese for so long and you lose a lot of weight it is extremely hard, I have found, to recognise yourself as the size you are and the person you have become. I believe that this is a process everyone struggles with to some extent though I think the bigger the amount of weight you lose the more your appearance changes and as such the harder this is. Please do not take this to mean I do not respect that it is hard for everyone as I know it must be but I only have my experiences to go by.

A week in the food of Jen!

So, I keep being asked the same question, what do I eat, not just over one day, but over one week! So due to popular demand I have written you all an average weeks food for me day by day! Please do remember though that everyone is different and as such the way we all deal with food is different. What one person eats and looses 3lb on may make another person lose 7lb and another person maintain because we all have different metabolisms and the quantities and proportions we all eat will differ too!

Decisions, decisions, where should your target be?

Well, this is one thing that anyone starting any weight loss plan wants to decide. We ask questions to ourselves about the end goal, the target figure, the dream weight. Where do I want to be? Where should I be? What is healthy? What weight would I be at my dream clothes size? How much does my friend weigh? What is a normal BMI? How much do I need to lose to buy clothes in a high street shop not online? When will people stop pointing me out and considering me as "fat"? When will I feel more confident?

20th November Friday Favourites!

I often change what I eat and what I cook according to my mood, the weather, seasonal fruit and vegetables, and what is on offer at the shops I go to! money of course also has a big impact on what we all cook doesn't it, no one wants to spend more than they have to on food when you can save it for a holiday but equally eating on a budget some days doesn't always mean eating bland foods either! So, I thought hey why not share these things with everyone who reads my blog, so every Friday I will share my favourites of that week, it may help give others ideas, it may it may inspire you to try something different, or it may just make you wonder why on earth I like such a random selection of foods who knows!

Fighting emotional eating and depression, an on-going battle!

So, this week has been a mixture of a week. I am not ashamed to admit that I have struggled with my depression this week which in turn has affected my food. I have eaten some high syn snacks when I have felt down and I have to accept whatever the scales show for this but I am open with myself and know that I deserve to gain after what I have eaten. You would think after losing over ten stone on Slimming World and obviously making many great food choices I would be good at this by now but with depression it will never be easy. It will be an on-going battle, which is why I know I will be a member of Slimming World for life and constantly keep a close eye on my weight so I never slip back to that morbidly obese lady I once was.

What a week for the new me! Take A Break, Slimming World Ball and Jason Donovan!

Well, it is Sunday evening and this week has been amazing. The old Jen wouldn't say boo to a goose, the old Jen was the one hiding in a corner on a night out or getting so drunk that I was not self conscious! The old Jen never would draw attention to herself and hated herself! The old Jen hasn't gone completely I would be lying if I said she has. The Jen I am today is a mixture of the new Jen I hope I am becoming and the old Jen who I really don't want to be any more. I wish the old Jen would completely disappear but these things can not possibly happen overnight.

The A-Z of Unexpected advantages to losing a lot of weight!

When you aim to lose a lot of weight you know that your clothes sizes will change, the number on the scales will change and that your confidence may improve. I had been overweight for a number of years, all my adult life so I think you get used to how you are and don't imagine any different. Some changes were surprising to me when they happened so I thought I would share in case it gives anyone a giggle or inspires anyone to want to see these changes in themselves.

October, a mixture of a month!

So a roundup of October! Well, we all had an amazing holiday in Majorca. Somehow despite not eating or drinking too well I managed to maintain my weight, I am still a little above my target weight but I'm not too concerned as I know I will get back there.

For my first blog post I thought that I should give you a bit of an introduction about me, my life and why I decided to blog etc. I know initially the people reading this will probably know some of this anyway but hey you never know I might become one of those bloggers that have their blog read by strangers all over the world, and if this happens and any of you are millionaires with a need to give away money do remember me!
