This week for my Coffee Break series I have chatted to the lovely Sarah from the blog www.boorooandtiggertoo.com. Sarah writes a very popular parenting blog which has a mixture of days out, fun activities, reviews of products and more. Sarah talks about being a work at home mum and all the fun and stress that entails. So here we find a bit more about Sarah and her blog for a little coffee break reading!
First things first we can’t have a chat without a cuppa. Do you drink tea or coffee and how do you take it? Are you a biscuit fan? If so what’s your favourite?
I don’t actually like tea or coffee, I’m one of those funny people in life. Once in a blue moon I’ll enjoy a hot chocolate but I’m usually found with a glass of squash or my guilty pleasure of Pepsi Max Cherry. Biscuits, however, is something I love… selecting my favourite is a difficult one as I think it depends on what mood I’m in but I’d have to say that digestives are my go-to biscuit.
Ooh yes got to love a digestive!
You have been blogging quite a while now can you tell us a bit about your blog and what inspired you to start it?
This year I will have been blogging for six years. Something that I never thought would happen after writing my first post about returning to work following maternity leave with my second child. I’d read many blogs whilst I was on maternity leave but the majority where about life as a SAHM (stay at home mum), so I wanted to share what life would be like as a working parent.
You are a work at home mum now aren’t you. What is your favourite part of working at home?
Following my redundancy last year, I’m now a work from home mum. I am fortunate enough to make a living via my blog and some freelance projects. The flexibility is probably the biggest bonus for me. Having had many years of juggling childcare around holidays, sickness etc. it is nice not to have to worry about it now – although I do have a few late nights to squeeze it all into a day.
Is there anything about working at home that is difficult or you don’t like?
I’m yet to find the balance between family life and working life. There are days when I have so much work to complete yet Piglet will refuse to nap or I’m answering emails whilst cooking the tea etc. I miss the structure to a working day, one you can switch off from and pick up the next time you’re in the office.
Which parts of your blog do you enjoy writing about most?
I love writing about our adventures, whether it’s to the forest, visiting a new city or exploring a theme park. We don’t like to be at home.
You share a lot of days out reviews etc what has been your favourite day out, and Why?
We are a family that likes to travel. One of the best things my husband pushed me to do before we had children was to pass my driving test. Now I am fortunate to hop in the car and head out whenever the urge takes us. Drayton Manor always holds a special place in our hearts as it was one of the first places we took Roo when she was just two years old. We’ve been back at least once a year, every year.
You also review a lot of products, I guess your kids love this? As a family what have been your favourites?
We are very lucky to be able to share our opinions on different products. The children love the toys (obviously) but it is the practical things that have lasted the test of time. Such as the little life daysacks, Harry Potter snuggle Sac and having the iCandy Peach All Terrain Pushchair for Piglet has enabled us to continue our travels.
As quite an experienced blogger how what advice would you give any new bloggers reading this or anyone considering writing a blog? I have been asked a few times recently but don’t feel I’m experienced enough to offer good advice!!
Advice wise I think you need to consider the basics which will last the test of time.
Choose a name that you like – you will use this a lot, so make it something you like and also generic enough to still be relevant in years to come.
Manners cost nothing – whilst you might be having a bad day it does not mean you should rant to a PR because they have approached you in the wrong way/not relevant to your site etc. They same thing for Twitter and Facebook, what you write is public so remember this as it is not just your family and friends reading it.
Is there anything you would change about your job? Or anything you don’t like?
I’m quite lucky that I still enjoy my blog and all that it entails. I think my pet peeve would be the blogging community. We can pull together and support some wonderful causes and campaigns but we also have the power to pull things apart and that side of things makes me question why I blog.
I am sure my readers will love to read your blog but also find you on social media is this ok can you share your links?
