Ocean Spray Whole Berry – A Review

The lovely guys over at Ocean Spray recently sent us some cartons of juice to try. The Ocean Spray Whole Berry juice is available in two flavours, Ocean Spray Whole Berry Cranberry, and Ocean Spray Whole Berry Cranberry, Raspberry, Blueberry and Strawberry mixed fruit juice blend. So, what did we think?

We only tried the Ocean Spray Whole Berry Cranberry, Raspberry, Blueberry and Strawberry mixed fruit juice blend. Initially I was unsure whether I would like it because whilst I absolutely love cranberry sauce (my favourite is in a brie and cranberry sauce toastie!) I am not a fan of cranberry juice. I was however open to trying it again and as this was a mixed flavour was intrigued.

Cranberries are well known for being great for fibre and vitamin c so I would love to enjoy the juice for that benefit. I also noticed that there was no added sugar which is good. Fruit is so sweet naturally I find it bizarre when so many manufacturers feel the need to fill it with sugar too. Equally however I was a little concerned that cranberries naturally are rather sour and with the packaging stating that each glass contained 40 cranberries I was worried it might not be too good.

How did it taste?

Despite my reservations I was so surprised that I actually really liked the juice. It was sweet but not too sweet and the fruity taste was perfect. It was everything I like about cranberry sauce and everything I like in a fruit drink all rolled into one! The consistency of the juice was just right as I have tried to show in the photo below. It is thicker than a regular juice but not as thick as a smoothie. I guess the best way I can describe the consistency is a bit like the fruit drinks often available in pubs in glass bottles – J2O’s. However I often feel they are too artificially sweet whereas this was perfect. The only similarity was the consistency which I can not find another way really to describe or anything else to compare it to so please forgive the comparison.

Is it healthy?

As you know I follow Slimming World and on that plan no fruit juices are free. However this is not too highly synned if you also follow Slimming World. If you just try to follow a healthy diet this has no added sugar, lots of vitamin c and lots of fibre all in a tasty drink so I don’t think you can really go wrong. I would much rather chose this than another fruit juice (equally synned!) as it felt much more interesting and fun. Orange juice gets boring doesn’t it!

Would you recommend it?

I most certainly would. it was really nice and I could imagine it would be lovely with a breakfast or mid morning snack. If you wanted to add a little vodka to it in the evening I am pretty sure that would be good too! Obviously though drink the vodka in moderation because I can assure you this juice is lovely and you might easily be tempted to drink the whole carton! Ben also really enjoyed the Ocean Spray Whole Berry Cranberry, Raspberry, Blueberry and Strawberry mixed fruit juice blend. He can be quite fussy with drinks and doesn’t like acidic ones like orange juice so this was just great for him.

Where can I buy some to try myself?

At present it is available in Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Asda, Co-Op and Booths for £2.99 (850ml carton) unless you spot it on offer! I am sure before long however it will be available elsewhere too.

Please note I was given the cartons of juice to try and share with you however all views above are my own, yes I do love brie and cranberry sauce toasties! If you would like to read more of my reviews please do pop over to my reviews section and have a look.
