When it is Christmas and we have guests round we often want to buy something a little different when it comes to food and drinks. Here are some suggestions I have found and think you will like.
This bottle of Winterling Riesling Brut would be perfect for with Christmas dinner, or any time really over the festive season. A lovely change from prosecco this would be a nice gift too. At £19.99 from The Fizz Company and coming with a gift tag and in a gold coloured box it is extra special.
These Wild and Game Pates are something really different if you are looking to impress someone who loves pate. They are available on the Wild and Game website for £3.50 each.
Pickled Walnuts are one of those things you either love or hate but are perfect for Christmas with cheese, crackers etc on a buffet table. This jar from Opies are available in most supermarkets.
This chocolate I have to say is absolutely gorgeous. If you are looking for vegan chocolate that tastes good then look no further! With lots of tasty flavours available in individual bars at Holland and Barratt and other health food shops you can buy bars or hampers of the tasty chocolate on the Seed and Bean website too!
Popaball are little fun balls to add to a glass of champagne (or lemonade for children!) They add a little touch of special and the flavour comes out when you get to the bottom of the glass and pop the balls in your mouth. Some supermarkets have got gift sets with them in at the moment or pop over to the Popaball website for the full range.
Peter’s Yard crackers, if you haven’t tried them before are really tasty and unique. Some of the range are available in Waitrose and some in Sainsbury’s however the full range can be seen and ordered on the Peter’s Yard website. They are perfect for canapes, with cheese, with dips and even in a gift hamper.
Fruit in alcohol, who doesn’t want that at Christmas? I love it and these are really the best around in my opinion. These are just some of the range available. They are available in Waitrose, Tesco and on Amazon. They would make a lovely secret santa gift or a gift for your child’s teacher but personally I would buy them and eat them before I gifted them! They are irresistible!
Heineken 0.0 is an alcohol free lager perfect for anyone to join in the celebrations such as adults who are driving or those on medications who can not drink. Whatever the reason for not drinking these are ideal to keep in when you have visitors or to take with you to a party. They are available from most supermarkets.
If you love chocolate and a praline then these Guylian chocolates really are the chocolates for you. A tasty sharing size bag. Note that I said sharing size – this doesn’t mean you really have to share them if you don’t want! They include a great selection of individually wrapped sweets perfect for over the festive period.
If you love gin then these Pickering’s Gin baubles are most definitely the ones for you. This set of 6 plastic baubles filled with quality gin look lovely, tasty lovely and would even be a nice gift. They are £30 for the set of 6 and available directly from Pickering’s, Selfridges and John Lewis with a few other stockists available too.
If you are serving up a fancy G and T over the festive season then why not treat yourself to this set. It is available from one of my favourite online stores Menkind for £29.99.
If you are making cocktails or any kind of Christmas desserts then these essentials from Opies are great. They can be bought at most supermarkets and will top off those Christmas drinks a treat!
Christmas isn’t the same without chocolate liqueurs in my opinion. These Famous name liqueurs and the Elizabeth Shaw goodies with them are lovely treats for over Christmas and New Year. Don’t open them before the guests arrive though as you could easily finish the lot they are so moreish! Most good supermarkets should have them in stock so have a look!
If you are buying some chocolate this festive season how about these cute little bars from the Co-Op. They are fairtrade and so tasty! A nice little snack to have in to help you resist temptation of the big boxes of chocolates that once you open them you will never stop!
If you love Irish cream you will love this it is amazing. Coole Swan is the best Irish cream I think I have ever had, it is creamy whilst also being not sickly! I love it and it would be a perfect addition to your drinks cabinet/Fridge this Christmas and New Year. It is available throughout December for £22 from John Lewis.
Copperpot fudge is amazing and these three varieties are to die for. If you love fudge then you will love this brand. It is great quality and perfect to pass around with a drink in the evening when you have guests visiting. These are available in a Christmas pack and individually over on the Copperpot Originals Website.
If you are worried about fridge space during the festive period then why not treat yourself to one of these Husky Kopparberg Drinks coolers. They can chill up to 40 330/440ml cans or 12 wine bottles. They are small enough to fit on a worktop or a coffee table. We have ours in the lounge on a side table and it is quiet enough not to really notice it at all. Super handy when you want a drink! For £149.99 from Argos they would make Christmas and New Year so much easier with all that extra drinks space! No need for a warm glass of cider again!
If you are looking for something different for your Christmas breakfast or a low cost present for someone who is a bit of a foodie then this may be perfect. Christmas Marmalade from The Bay Tree is just £3 and something really different and tasty!
Chilli jam is an amazing idea and I am sure any chilli lover would love these on the buffet table with cheese and crackers. The jams are available from Single Variety Co. from £5 a jar and make a lovely extra for your buffet or an unusual gift for low cost, perfect for that foodie in your life.
Brothers Toffee Apple English cider is amazing and one of my favourite ciders. I have not tried it warm yet but apparently it is perfect for a warming Christmassy drink too! These cans are newly available and should be in most supermarkets but if you cant find them look out for the bottles instead, just as nice just a little bigger and harder to stack in the fridge!
A vintage whisky need not be something you write off as too expensive. This 12 year old Balblair Whisky is £45 and not only does it taste good but as you can see it looks perfect for a gift too. Balblair are specialists in vintage whisky and one of the oldest working distilleries in the Scottish highlands so whether it is this one or an older one you are looking for pop over to check the Balblair website and see if you can find that perfect drink to enjoy over the Christmas period.
King Cobra is the world’s first double fermented lager using an ale yeast and double fermented in champagne bottles. This makes it lovely as a gift or a nice looking drink to get out when you have visitors. Sure beats a can of lager doesn’t it? So much more special and perfect for the festive season. It is available to buy from Tesco.
