When it comes to living life to the full we can often associate that with filling every minute of the day with things you need to be doing. However, sometimes being too busy isn’t living your best life and can actually be overwhelming.

You can feel out of control, exhausted, and failing to appreciate the experience you might be having. Living life to the full is all about embracing your days, but sometimes you can do this with some of the simple things in life.

So if you want to embrace simplicity and still be living your life to the full, here are some of the things to try.

Show more gratitude each day

One of the first things to consider would be to show more gratitude where you can. A simple way to do this is through a gratitude journal. You can note things down that you are thankful for that day, such as something that happened, an experience you had, or even a person.

It could be small such as a hot cup of tea in the garden or something like taking a baby to a baby class for the first time. Take time out of your day to feel thankful for some of the things that have made you smile that day. 

Try meditation

Another great option to consider would be to try meditation. If you haven’t done this before there are plenty of guided meditations that can help you get started. It can be an ideal time to start focusing on how you feel and changing your mindset, a simple but effective thing to do.

Declutter your home 

There is no doubt about it that clutter in your home can affect your mindset and make you feel like there is chaos, even if there isn’t any. So a great tip would be to focus on decluttering your home.

You could look at tackling one room at a time, or simply start with different areas, drawers, and cupboards. The more you start to do this, the more you will feel calmer. 

Slow down 

It may sound wrong to slow down when you want to be living your life to the full, but actually slowing down can help you to appreciate the simple things. If you are busy, you may feel inclined to rush about, or not experience something as you would if you had no other distractions or complications.

Slowing down gives you that chance of clarity, and in return, gives you the opportunity to embrace life in a different way. You will notice more, and feel like your attention can be a lot more focused.

Volunteer your time to others 

Making others happy or helping someone in need is one of the life’s simple pleasures and it costs you nothing but your time. So why not start to volunteer your time to others?

You could look at helping a friend in need, or get involved with a local charity. It may feel like you are filling your time, but focusing on giving back and helping other people is really rewarding. It can help you to appreciate what you have in your own life. 

Say no when you need to 

We all know that life can get busy at times, so if you can, learn to say no more. You don’t always have to do all of the things and you can quite simply choose how you spend your time. Saying no more is liberating, and it is a simple way to ensure that you live your life to the full on your own terms.

Say yes to new adventures

On the flip side to that, while you might be looking to say no to the things you want to do, don’t be afraid to say yes to new adventures. Sometimes we can hold ourselves back as we feel out of our comfort zone or not in control of a situation. But in some cases, this can be the thief of joy.

A simple thing to do would be to say yes to the things you want to do and no to the things you don’t need in your life. It is often a case of weighing up what is more important to you. Once you grasp this you will start to see a huge difference in your life.

Let go of FOMO 

There can often be a fear of missing out, so let go of any FOMO you might be experiencing. It is easy to agree to things if you feel like you will have this fear of missing out, but then this can be counterproductive as you then end up spending time doing something you originally didn’t want to do. Just because you didn’t want to miss out.

If you can let go of that need and start to focus your energy and attention on the things that you do want to do, then you will notice a shift in how you feel and how you spend your days. Embrace the simple things instead of focusing on what you might be missing out on.

Reduce your screen time 

Often you can spend too much time scrolling social media or consumed in something on your phone or tablet. Now is the time to try and reduce that screen time. It can often be done out of a need to feel gratification or assurance on the things that you are doing, but it can also be a way of comparing yourself to others which isn’t very healthy.

Be mindful of how long you spend in front of a screen and use the time to do other things. 

Be outside more 

Finally, get outside more. The fresh air, being close to nature, and being more active is just a simple thing to do, but it can help you in many ways including your mindset and feeling better about yourself. The more you are outside, whether exercising, taking a gentle stroll, or playing with your kids, the happier and more content you will feel.
