Win Tickets to See True Crime Author Carol Ann Lee in Nottingham
If you enjoy true crime, a good mystery or finding out what really happened behind some of the most fascinating stories in history, I have another lovely giveaway for you!
Thanks to Trinder & Trinder Productions, I have a pair of tickets to give away to see bestselling true crime author Carol Ann Lee at the Bonington Theatre in Arnold, Nottingham, on Sunday 18th October 2026 at 2pm.
I’ve always found it fascinating how stories can change over the years, especially when you start looking at the real people involved rather than just the version of events that everyone thinks they know. This event sounds particularly interesting because Carol will be talking about the Pendle Witch Trials, a story that combines history, superstition, accusations and some rather disturbing events.
If that sounds like your sort of afternoon, keep reading because you could be going along for free!

Who is Carol Ann Lee?
If you’re a fan of true crime books, you may already recognise Carol Ann Lee’s name. She’s a Sunday Times bestselling author who has written about some of Britain’s most notorious crimes and the people involved in them.
Her books include The Murders at White House Farm, One of Your Own: The Life and Death of Myra Hindley, A Fine Day for Hanging: The Real Ruth Ellis Story and The Pottery Cottage Murder. You can check all her books out here.
What I find particularly interesting about authors like Carol is the amount of research that goes into uncovering the details behind cases we might think we already know everything about. It’s one thing to watch a documentary or read a newspaper article, but quite another to spend years investigating the people, circumstances and evidence involved.
For this event, Carol will be discussing her book Something Wicked, which explores the infamous Pendle Witch Trials of 1612.

What happened during the Pendle Witch Trials?
You may have heard of the Pendle witches, particularly if you enjoy British history or stories about witchcraft and superstition, but the real events behind the legend are rather more disturbing than any Halloween story.
In 1612, a group of people from Lancashire were accused of witchcraft, with ten eventually executed and another dying while awaiting trial in Lancaster Castle.
It’s difficult to imagine living in a time when accusations of witchcraft could have such devastating consequences, particularly when suspicion, family disagreements and superstition could play such an enormous part in what happened to someone.
Over 400 years later, there are still questions about the trials, the people involved and how much of the story we’ve been told is actually accurate.

In Something Wicked, Carol Ann Lee approaches the events as a true crime investigation rather than simply retelling the familiar legends. She looks at the families involved, the women accused of witchcraft and the circumstances that led to so many people losing their lives.
She also explores some of the mysteries surrounding the case, including Malkin Tower and what happened to those who were executed.
I think that sounds fascinating, especially when you consider how differently we look at evidence, accusations and justice today.

An afternoon of murders and mysteries in Nottingham
The event is part of Matinees of Murders and Mysteries, taking place at the Bonington Theatre in Arnold on Sunday 18th October 2026.
During the afternoon, Carol will be interviewed about her research and her book, sharing some of the discoveries she made while investigating the Pendle Witch Trials.
There will also be an audience question-and-answer session, which I always think makes events like this even more interesting. You get the opportunity to hear about the things that might not have made it into the book and ask questions about the research or the story itself.
Whether you’ve already read Something Wicked, enjoy historical true crime or simply fancy doing something a little different on a Sunday afternoon, it sounds like a really interesting event.

A little about Trinder & Trinder Productions
This event is being brought to Nottinghamshire by Trinder & Trinder Productions, who are also behind the Sam McAlister event I recently shared with you.
I really like the idea behind the events they are bringing to the area. Rather than having to travel to London or another big city to hear from interesting authors, speakers and people with extraordinary stories to tell, we can enjoy events like this much closer to home.
As someone who lives in Nottinghamshire, I think it’s great to see more opportunities to do something a little different locally. We all know how easy it is to fall into the habit of doing the same things every weekend, so having events like these to look forward to is lovely.
I’m really pleased to be working with Trinder & Trinder again and to be able to offer another reader the chance to attend one of their events.
