Tweakments to consider
Switch out the hardware
Most of us have the same old standard door handles, cupboard and drawer pulls, light switches, and sockets that you can find in any other home, and although they look fine and function perfectly well, they aren’t exactly special, and they don’t exactly stand out. You can change that by switching them out for luxury interior details – Corston, for example, have tons of pretty brass, bronze and polished nickel versions of the hardware in your home, and they are a simple and subtle way to make your home look a little bit more interesting because the devil is often in the detail, right?
Make comfort a priority
When you make comfort a priority in your home, it often not only transforms the wya your space feels, but it also makes your home seem more rich and elegant too. For example, deep, comfy sofas tend to look and feel more expensive than harder, shallower ones. Ditto velvet cushions over cotton ones or thick furry blankets and throws over thinner ones made from materials like polyester., When you put your focus squarely on comfort, style and elegance are never far behind. So, switch out any accessories and pieces of furniture that are less than comfy, and you will see a huge difference.
Scent is smart
Many of us do not think too much about our home smells as long as it smells clean and fresh, and there are no funky odors lingering around, but you know what? The way your home smells is much more important than you might think, scent boosts mood, and scent can make your home feel more inviting, not to mention expensive, if you choose the right one. So, invest in an aromatherapy diffuser or two, and have one upstairs and one downstairs. Fill it with your favourite high-quality essential oils, and see how much more sophisticated your home feels.
Switch to soft lighting
If the lighting in your home is harsh, bright and pretty much blindingly white, it is not going to be doing a lot for your space. Not only will it make it hard for you to relax in the evenings, but it will also show up in every spot of dirt you’ve missed when cleaning. Not only that, but it will make your home feel more like a cold, clinical waiting room than the cosy, inviting home you want it to be, so make sure to switch to dimmer, softer lighting if you can. You might always want to switch out regular light shades for those made out of warm velvet for a cosier touch or glass if you want to create a sophisticated level of ambience.
Change colours
The colours we use to decorate our homes can have a huge impact on our mood and how stylish and sophisticated our homes looks, so sometimes, a simple lick of paint really can transform how our space looks, but also how we feel in our spaces too. For example, muted nature tones like sage and sea blue will have a calming effect and can look quite classy, while bright colours like sunflower yellow can boost mood, energise us and give our home a more quirky modern feel. Think about how you would want your home to ideally look and feel, and choose colours accordingly.
Bring the outside in
Plants, when well cared for, always add a touch of class to any home, and more than that, they add new shapes, textures and styles to the space too. They can show more of your personality, depending on whether you choose tough, hardy cacti or delicate orchids, too. Bonus: they’ll clean the air for you too!
Refinish the furniture
If your furniture is looking a bit old and tired, or if it’s just pretty basic and you want it to wow everyone who visits your home, then refinishing it is an easy way to transform your home. For example, you can quite easily sand down that old wooden coffee table, paint it with a glossy black furniture paint, and god trim, and it will look like a really sophisticated one-off piece. Or, maybe you have an old dining chair that’s past its best. You could revitalise that by removing the old upholstery fabric and replacing it with a bright, bold geometric print fabric instead, but leaving the old wood as it is to create contrast. Whatever floats your boat!
Change the sheets
A really easy way to transform bedroom spaces is to simply change out the sheets for something a bit more expensive. Whether it’s satin sheets for a more dramatic look or the best Egyptian cotton sheets you can afford for a natural but sophisticated new look, the sheets take up all of the space in your bedroom, so making them more interesting will naturally make the whole room more interesting too.
Move it
Moving things to different places within the room or to a different room completely can really change how your whole home looks and feels. For example, moving your couch from in front of the TV to in front of the window can let more light in and give your home more class becasue the focus will no longer be the TV, or moving your dining table from the ceneter of the space to the corner can free up more room for cooking witht he family, while also making the dining space more cozy.
