Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to share my story in newspapers, magazines, on the radio and across a variety of online publications.
Whether I’ve been talking about losing more than 10 stone, rebuilding my confidence after domestic abuse, the emotional side of weight loss or healthy living in general, my aim has always been the same: to help other people realise they’re not alone.
Being invited to contribute to national and local media has been an incredible privilege, but what matters most to me is knowing that sharing my experiences has helped someone else feel understood or inspired to make positive changes in their own life.
If you’re a journalist, podcast host or producer looking for someone to comment on weight loss, obesity, confidence, food noise, wellbeing, domestic abuse recovery or blogging, I’d be delighted to hear from you.
I am happy to speak to the media or other bloggers and share my story, if you wish to speak to me regarding this please email me on jen@justaveragejen.com.

Featured in national newspapers and magazines
Over the years I’ve been featured in a variety of national publications, sharing different parts of my story.
Some interviews have focused on my weight loss journey, while others have explored more personal experiences, including surviving domestic abuse, rebuilding confidence and coping with difficult family relationships.
Every interview has been an opportunity to show that healthy living isn’t just about numbers on a scale. It’s also about mental wellbeing, resilience and learning to be kinder to yourself.
My story was in Take A Break Magazine in November 2015 and in December 2015 it was featured in The Daily Star.
Photographs of both articles can be found below. They talk about how I left an abusive relationship and then lost weight and gained confidence.

I was also featured in an article in Woman magazine published on 25/05/2021 talking about my dad rejecting me and how he died without us ever making peace.

Radio and Television
I always enjoy live interviews because they allow for real conversations rather than carefully edited quotes.
I’ve appeared on TalkRadio discussing the emotional side of dieting and why successful weight loss is about much more than simply eating less and moving more.
I’ve also spoken on BBC Radio Nottingham several times and been a guest on BBC Radio Sheffield, sharing practical healthy living advice alongside my own experiences.

As well as newspapers and radio, I’ve contributed to a wide range of national websites.
These articles have covered subjects including healthy living, blogging, family life, accessibility, volunteering and lifestyle topics.
I enjoy working with journalists who are looking for genuine lived experience rather than textbook answers, because sometimes the most valuable advice comes from someone who’s actually been through it.
Why I choose to share my story
People occasionally ask why I’m so open about some of the more difficult parts of my life.
The simple answer is because I remember how alone I felt.
When I was struggling with my weight, recovering from an abusive relationship or trying to rebuild my confidence, I desperately wanted to hear from someone who truly understood.
If sharing my experiences helps even one person realise they’re not failing, they’re simply human, then every interview, article and conversation has been worthwhile.
Just Average Jen in Local Media
I have been on the website of the local newspaper Mansfield Chad regarding me running the Great North Run and also on BBC Radio Nottingham a number of times talking about my weight loss, my blog and my tips.

I participated in the Mansfield Health and Wellbeing Festival in March and April 2017 which was organised by Mansfield Museum in partnership with Mansfield District Council.
This included talks about my weight loss journey and the importance of keeping in touch with your mental health whilst losing weight.

Jen’s freelance writing and elsewhere in the media
I have written an article for Metro about my volunteering, writing letters to sick children.
I contributed to an article on AgeUK’s website about accessibility.
I have been asked numerous times why I tell my story both on my blog and in the media, and I have happily shared it, and continue to be happy for my story to be shared.
I am a proud survivor of domestic abuse, so never feel ashamed to share my story about that either.
