Easy Ways of Updating Your Garden on a Budget This Spring

This is a collaborative post.

Spring is the perfect time for updating your garden, the nights are starting to get lighter and the weather is warming up. There are countless ways to add a touch of beauty and life to your outdoor space, and many of them are easy to do even if you are planning on updating your garden on a budget. In fact, there are many easy ways to give your outdoor space a fresh look without breaking the bank. Here are a few ideas you could consider.

garden with pots and hedges

Plant some flowers

Adding a few colourful blooms to your garden is one of the easiest and most effective ways to update it. Why not ask your family and friends if they have any plants that you can take cuttings from?

If you don’t have a big garden why not add some potted plants instead? Potted plants will also bring a touch of colour and texture to any garden, and they are easy to move around if needed.

Hang some outdoor lights

String lights or lanterns aren’t expensive but will add ambience to your outdoor space and make it more inviting.

If you have a large garden strategically placing lights will instantly transform the look and feel of your garden without the need for lots of lights.

Plant a vegetable garden

Planting a vegetable garden is a great way to get fresh, organic produce. You know what has been planted, what it’s been treated with (if anything) and you know how fresh it is when it’s ready to be harvested.

If you don’t have the space to create or maintain a big vegetable patch make little planters or raised beds, that way you can use just a little bit of your available space. This will also make your garden manageable and easy to maintain.

If you need tools to make your raised beds ask your family and friends to borrow what you need or shop around to find the tools you need at a bargain price.

Hang outdoor decorations

There are plenty of affordable outdoor decorations that can add charm to your garden.  But if you are on a tight budget you could even make your own wind chimes, birdhouses, feeders and ornaments. There are some amazing ideas on Pinterest.

Paint fences or furniture

A fresh coat of paint is one of the quickest and cheapest ways to update your garden. Old and tired-looking furniture and fences will look as good as new.

Update your paving

If you are looking to update your paving, add a gravel path or even add a new patio area to your garden look around for deals before you make any final decisions. Prices can vary from shop to shop but I always find Builder Depot has good prices. You may even be able to find free materials on your local Facebook selling pages or marketplace.

By taking advantage of these budget-friendly tips, you’ll be able to give your garden a fresh look without breaking the bank and with just a few simple changes, you can easily update your garden this spring and enjoy its beauty all summer long.
