How to make your own Slimming World pizza

Do you often wish for a low-calorie pizza, a syn free pizza or even a Slimming World pizza with low syns? Here we look how this could be a possibility!

Pizza is undoubtedly one of the world’s most beloved comfort foods. Its irresistible combination of melted cheese, savoury sauce, tasty toppings, and crispy crust makes it hard to resist. However, pizza is often heavy on calories, unhealthy fats, and salt.

But fear not, pizza lovers! You can still enjoy this Italian delight guilt-free by making simple tweaks to create a healthier homemade pizza. Here are several ways to do just that.

Change to a whole wheat crust

Change your regular white flour crust to a whole wheat one. Whole wheat flour adds fibre, vitamins, and minerals to your pizza, making it a better choice for your health. Whole grains also have a lower glycemic index, which can help stabilise blood sugar levels.

Experiment with Different Bases and Crusts

Thin-crust pizzas are delicious and naturally lower in calories and carbohydrates than their thick-crust counterparts.

Swap your traditional pizza base for a wrap, pitta, or naan bread. Remember to use wholewheat alternatives. You can also easily make cauliflower bases for a low-carb option.

If you want to avoid the carbs altogether, you could even use a butterflied chicken breast as your base; it tastes delicious and makes for a great alternative.

Vegetables are great

Load your pizza with lots of colourful vegetables. Toppings like bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, onions, broccoli, and tomatoes add flavour and texture and provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Add lean proteins

Regarding protein, choose grilled chicken, turkey, or tofu instead of high-fat meats like pepperoni or sausage. These lean options provide the protein you need without the excess saturated fat, making your pizza healthier without sacrificing taste.

Use low-fat cheeses

Cheese is high in saturated fats and calories. So, choose low-fat mozzarella cheese instead of adding regular cheese to your pizza. This will reduce the fat content of your pizza but still give it the creamy, cheesy goodness everyone loves.

Control your portion sizes

Limit your slice count and avoid overloading with unhealthy toppings. If you are making individual pizzas, pitta and naan bread are the perfect size for an individual portion. Remember to use whole wheat pitta and naan breads for added fibre.

Don’t forget your side salad

Add a salad with leafy greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and a light vinaigrette dressing to your pizza meal. This will increase your vegetable intake and help fill you up with fewer pizza slices. If you want to make a more interesting salad why not add some sliced peppers and other salad vegetables to bulk it out.

Make your own sauce

Traditional pizza sauce frequently contains a lot of salt and sugar. The flavour of homemade tomato sauce is often nicer than store-bought sauce since it uses fresh tomatoes and herbs. Because it is homemade, the amount of salt and sugar will probably be significantly lower.

Include herbs and spices

Add fresh herbs and spices to your pizza instead of extra salt or calorie-dense sauces and toppings. Basil, oregano, rosemary, and garlic can all enhance the flavour of your pizza.

Pizza may be made healthier without compromising on flavour or enjoyment. In reality, these changes can improve the pizza’s flavour and texture. You can make a pizza by using whole wheat bread/dough, a lot of vegetables, and lean proteins and paying attention to portions.
