Midweek Catch-Up 10/09/25
Hello again, I can’t believe it is Wednesday again already! This week hasn’t been as busy for me as the last few weeks, which was a welcome change. It feels like some weeks, I just never stop!

Weight Loss, Exercise and Mental Health Catch-up
I am still having problems with my chest/lungs, so I am not weighing and exercising at the moment, as to be honest, I am not sure my body will cope with exercise, and I definitely don’t want to know my weight at all!
My mental health hasn’t been too bad. I have a lot going on that I am trying to think about, which is always tough and knocks me a little, but I have been worse, so I think I am ok. Nothing really I can say other than, I keep going because that is the only choice, still taking the meds, and just carrying on, carrying on!

Books
If you remember last week, I shared that I was currently reading a lot of the Cara Hunter books so that I would get to book 7, which I bought before realising it was the 7th in the series! Anyway, now I have read books one (review last week), two and three, and I am about halfway through the fourth! So, here are my reviews of those, and a couple of other books! I am really getting stuck into book after book at the moment!
In the Dark by Cara Hunter review – This was just as good as the first book. The same detectives are at the base of the story with a different case. In this one a young lady and a toddler are found locked in a cellar in an area near where a young woman disappeared and was assumed murdered a few years before. The owner of the house is arrested but all is not as it seems! There are twists and turns right to the end, I loved it.
No Way Out by Cara Hunter review – Another one in the series. This one is based on a house fire in which two children die, and their parents are missing. Where are the parents? Who set the fire? And what was the reason to set a house with children on fire? This is one of those books that you think you know what has happened halfway through, then it changes and changes again. I did guess one of the key points of the plot early on, but that didn’t make the rest of the twists any less surprising!
I am now reading book 4 All The Rage, and enjoying it just as much so far, so I am sure I will have a review of that for you next week! At this rate, I will be reading book 7 that I bought about 10 days ago in a week or so at the most!
I finished The Talented Mr Ripley by Patricia Highsmith on Audible this week. It was an ok book, but I was rather underwhelmed to be honest and felt like it really dragged on and was far from a “page turner” type of book. There isn’t much I can say about it, but I gave it 4/10 at book club, which should give you an indication of what I thought!
I am currently listening to The Silent Ones by K L Slater on Audible, which I am enjoying. She is a local author with a number of books all based in the Nottinghamshire area. I have really enjoyed them and would say they are quite similar to the C.L. Taylor books if you enjoy those. Probably not quite as much of a page turner and twisting and turning as Freida McFadden, but still extremely good all the same.
This month at Book Club, the genre is horror. I am yet to decide what to read for that, but I do need to make a decision soon! I am far too invested in the Cara Hunter books at the moment, though, to consider looking for another new book! Do you have anything you would recommend?

For The Love Of Books: A Reading Journal

Ben is back at college and has his timetable all pretty much sorted now. He was anxious on his first day as usual, as he didn’t know who the tutors and students in his class would be, but he soon relaxed. I am sure this year, being a Level 3 course, there will be more work and higher expectations, so we keep reminding him of this, but I think until he gets into it, he just thinks we are moaning parents!
Stuart and I are both ok on the whole. A little anxious about what my latest tests on my chest will show, etc, but it is what it is. I am a bit fed up with feeling rubbish and coughing, etc, but it has become normal lately, unfortunately! It is my birthday in less than a month, so I will need to start giving Stuart and Ben ideas of what they can buy me! Other than books, I am not sure, to be honest. Last Christmas, Stuart bought me a camera bird feeder, which I love, and I am not sure any gift could top that! What do you ask for as gifts? Are you as difficult as I am to buy for?
