A Sweet Spot in Mansfield: My Review of PoFfles Coffee and Cake Emporium
For those of you who, like me, love cake and coffee, PoFfles Coffee and Cake Emporium in Mansfield Woodhouse is a must-visit. Family run, this quaint café has been winning hearts (and stomachs) with its homemade cakes, hearty breakfasts, and down-to-earth charm since it opened. But is PoFfles worth the hype? I headed down to try some cake and find out.

First Impressions – Cosy Comforts
Walking into PoFfles feels like being wrapped in a warm hug. Nestled on a quiet area of the main street, the cafe is small but full of character. The interior is simple but cosy, with a touch of vintage charm that perfectly complements the personal, family-run vibe. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel at home, whether you’re catching up with friends or having a coffee on your own.
The opening hours are 9 AM to 2 PM, Tuesday through until Saturday, making it a perfect spot for morning pick-me-ups or leisurely early lunches.

The Heart of the Menu – Homemade Cakes
PoFfles is, first and foremost, about the cakes, and they do not disappoint. The emporium offers a rotating selection of lovingly crafted homemade bakes, showcasing everything from Biscoff cake to Mini Egg cheesecake and Creme Egg Brownie.
Each slice looks, smells, and tastes like it’s been made in someone’s grandma’s kitchen – rich flavours, perfect textures, and that distinct homemade charm you just can’t get anywhere else. The attention to detail is evident in every bite. We have tried a few different bakes and all I can say is WOW they are absolutely amazing!

Breakfast and Lunch – Beyond the Sweets
Cakes might take centre stage at PoFfles, but the breakfast and lunch offerings hold their own. I have visited twice in the last week – no judgement please! I have been with both Ben and Stuart on different days, and both loved it as much as me.
Between us, we have tried the all-day breakfast, egg cob (roll, bap or sandwich if you’re not from around here!), cheese scones, cheese and chorizo panini and cheese and tomato panini. All have been amazing! I have seen the jacket potatoes served and a friend says they are the best jacket potatoes she has ever had so that is what I will have next time!
Everything was clearly quality ingredients not cheap nasty sausages etc, which I thought was lovely.

Service and Atmosphere – A True Local Gem
One aspect that sets PoFfles apart from other cafés is the exceptional service. The staff are delightful, offering the perfect mix of attentiveness and warm chatter. Their passion for what they do is evident in every interaction, and they’re more than happy to recommend their favourite menu items or explain the story behind a particular bake.
It’s not just a café; it’s a hub for locals who love great food and good company. They even host a Chatty Café once a week which is scheme to help reduce loneliness where anyone can come and find someone to chat. I absolutely love that idea. Not only that but they have a board of kindness where people can donate a drink or a meal so if someone is struggling they don’t have to miss out.
When I was in an abusive relationship and it was watched what money I spent this would have been so amazing and I would have been so grateful to still be able to meet a friend for a cuppa.

What Else Makes PoFfles Special?
PoFfles isn’t just about great food, it’s the whole package. Here are some extras that stood out to me:
- Five-Star Food Hygiene Rating
Peace of mind that the food you’re enjoying is prepared to the highest safety standards. The owner is an ex-nurse so she knows all about the risks of allergies too and is extra careful to be able to tell you the exact ingredients in something to ensure you are safe.
- Community Love
The café actively engages with its customers on their lively Facebook page, offering sneak peeks of new bakes, upcoming events, and even the occasional behind-the-scenes look.
- 100% Customer Recommendations
The rave reviews speak for themselves, locals love PoFfles, and after my visits, it’s easy to see why.

Why You Need to Visit
Whether you’re a local in Mansfield or just passing through, PoFfles offers more than just food, it’s a little slice of comfort and community. The combination of expertly made cakes, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere makes this emporium a standout destination. Whilst there isn’t any parking directly outside there is lots on streets nearby and the Morrisons Supermarket!
PoFfles truly lives up to its tagline as “the best brews in town”, but honestly, I’d argue that the cakes are just as deserving of the title.
