Ica Valley, Peru

Peru has a long, rich history of grape growing but it’s only relatively recently that the country has begun to compete as a wine producer. King Philip IV prohibited the import of Peruvian wines in the 17th century, which led to the creation of a type of brandy known as Pisco instead!

However, growers are now turning their attention to wine alongside pisco production, in the stunning Ica Valley, a desert oasis that wine lovers will adore. Head to Tacama to tour the oldest vineyard in South America or visit Hacienda La Caravedo, the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Americas, nestled in the foothills of the Andes.

Puglia, Italy

In this sun-drenched region of southern Italy, wine lovers are spoiled for choice. Visit the iconic Tormaresca winery, founded by Marchesi Antinori in 1998, where you can see the wines in production, take a trip down into the cellars and admire the vineyards from a balcony, as well as sampling the produce alongside delectable local cuisine.

Puglia reds made with the aromatic Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes make the perfect accompaniment to rustic local dishes and the region’s excellent seafood. Puglia also produces over half of all Italy’s olive oil so you could incorporate a visit to one of its many olive groves while you’re there. P&O Cruises are a great way to explore Italy, allowing you to make the most of your time in this beautiful region.

Douro Valley, Portugal

The Douro Valley offers one of the most scenic drives in Europe and also boasts some delicious wines. One of the oldest wine-growing regions in the world, parts of this beautiful valley are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and with its enchanting views and romantic appeal, it’s easy to see why.

Enjoy a guided wine tour of one of the many family-owned and run quintas, and sample freshly baked bread, smoked meats and locally-produced cheeses. If you visit the region in the summer months, you may even catch the Feira do Douro Verde, a festival to celebrate the spirit of the region and its wonderful produce.

Barossa Valley, Australia

There are more than 150 wineries to explore in South Australia’s premium wine region, Barossa Valley. With collections dating all the way back to 1851, no matter what your age you can sample a wine from your birth year during your stay. The Seppeltsfield Barossa is also considered among the most beautiful vineyards in the world, making it a must-visit for any wine connoisseur.
