Get to know your body

To feel confident in the way you dress, it’s important to understand your body type. Certain types of clothing may be more suited to specific silhouettes, so consider this when you head out shopping.

Fashion designer and stylist Gabrielle Arruda explains how to dress for your body type. She says if you have a pear shape “you want to draw attention to your upper half” by “choosing prints or brighter colours” and “wider necklines”.

If you have a rectangular body shape, you’d benefit from using “belts around your waist, mid-waisted trousers, and belted jackets”. While triangular shapes should “avoid necklines like boat-neck or bardot, big straps” and “halter-neck tops”.

While dressing for your body type is useful, it’s not all about what looks good, but what feels good too. After all, if you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing you’re more likely to feel confident. Choose items that light you up and spark joy throughout your day.

Take advantage of accessories

Once you’ve got to grips with the types of clothing you like, consider how to accessorize. We recommend investing in high-quality, simple items that will complement a variety of different looks.

For instance, shimmering diamond rings can be worn daily, whether you’re heading on a fun day out with friends, to the office, or for an evening out. Wear them with a classic pair of studs or small hoop earrings in your preferred metal, as well as a dainty chain necklace.

Once you’ve sorted your jewellery, think about other accessories that will help you feel put together and presentable. Handbags, for example, can complete an outfit, along with coats, shoes and belts.

Wearing accessories that you love and enjoy can help to boost your mood and your self-confidence, so you feel ready to tackle the day ahead.

Choose quality over quantity

Another effective way to boost your self-esteem is to choose quality items over quantity. Buying premium clothing with a higher price tag will inevitably make you more cautious about what you’re buying. To justify the cost, you’ll need to love the item and envision yourself wearing it regularly. It’ll need to make you look and feel good.

Choosing clothing in this way will reduce the likelihood of impulse buying items just because they are cheap and on sale. When you do this, you can accumulate clothing that you wouldn’t necessarily have bought otherwise, that you don’t particularly like or that doesn’t suit you.

This can lead to having a wardrobe that’s bursting at the seams with items you don’t want to wear. Instead, choose pieces that are built to last with high-quality materials and shaping, that will help you to dress with confidence for years to come.

By getting to know your body, taking advantage of accessories and investing in quality pieces, you can begin to feel more confident in the way you dress.
