Unofficial Slimming World red cabbage slow cooker recipe
Here I thought I would share with you the way I make my red cabbage.
I love Christmas and all the extras you have on a plate compared to the usual Sunday dinner. It doesn’t always have to be unhealthy though, there are reasonably healthy ways to make the same dishes.

Why use the slow cooker?
I prefer to make this red cabbage recipe in the slow cooker. The reason for this is because it means one less pan on the hob which at Christmas is key isn’t it?
I love my slow cooker and find ways to cook so many favourite meals in it as simply means I have more spare time to do other things.
Before you start to think about recipes with your slow cooker here are a few tips which may help.
If you find your meal is a bit watery take the lid off the slow cooker and turn it up high for half an hour this can help evaporate some of the water.
Using Slow cooker liners can save washing up if you are making something that often sticks.
Remember that nothing evaporates so you may need less liquid than in other recipes eg on the hob.
Get the best size slow cooker for your family there are lots of great ones available with many under £30 for a good brand and good size!
Alternatively, you could buy something like a Ninja Foodi which has a slow cooker function and also is an air fryer, pressure cooker, mini-oven and more!

A tasty extra vegetable
I love this red cabbage as it is an easy tasty way to add vegetables to your meal. It goes well with other Christmas vegetables like brown sugar glazed carrots or brown sugar brussel sprouts.
As you know if you follow Slimming World, WW, Noom or are just generally trying to eat healthily the more vegetables you have on your plate the better.
Vegetables are low in calories compared to their density. This essentially means that they fill you up with very few calories.
The more vegetables you have in a meal either as a side dish or mixed in with the meal itself the lower-calorie the meal tends to be. A filling but low-calorie meal is perfect for weight loss.
All my recipes include vegetables where possible but do feel free to add more as an accompaniment when you can.
Always choose vegetables that you enjoy because otherwise you will begrudge eating them and are more likely to before long stop cooking them at all.

If you follow Slimming World, Weight Watchers (WW), Noom or any other weight loss plan you can usually count the ingredients within this recipe in your allowances.

Christmas red cabbage recipe – Slimming World friendly

- Cook Time: 30 minutes – 3 hours
- Total Time: 35 minute

Description
Make 10 portions of red cabbage for Christmas dinner for 1 syn per person.
Ingredients
2 Red cabbages shredded
600g Bramley cooking apples (10 syns)
3 tbsp Granulated sweetener (1.5 syns)
1 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
1 tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
200ml cold water
Instructions
Shred all red cabbage and remove core and place into the slow cooker.
Core and dice apples into approximately cm cubes
Mix balsamic vinegar, sweetener, soy sauce and water in a jug and pour on top of the red cabbage and apples.
Cook on high in a slow cooker for 3 hours or alternatively cook in a pan for 30-40 minutes stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
