How to clean an air fryer
Your air fryer is likely a kitchen gadget you’re probably using a lot right now. They are so easy to use and very cost-effective. However, if you don’t use air fryer liners, they can get greasy and dirty quickly, especially if you use them frequently. Here are some of the best ways to clean an air fryer. It isn’t as complicated as you might think.

Make sure your air fryer is switched off
One of the first things you will need to do is ensure that your air fryer is switched off and unplugged before you clean an air fryer. Take out the compartment and air fryer basket you would cook the food in, and set it aside ready to clean.
Just separate the removable parts and keep the main air fryer and heating element away from the sink or water. As it is an electrical appliance, it isn’t safe to have water close by.
You don’t need any fancy cleaning products or equipment
Many people might think that you need a specific air fryer cleaner or need to use specialist equipment to clean an air fryer, but it is actually really simple to do.
You don’t need anything too specific; hot water and your standard washing-up liquid will work just fine. You need a dishcloth or a soft sponge to wipe away stubborn grease or leftover food residue, but that’s it.
Make a bowl of soapy, warm water, and use your sponge or cloth to wipe around the inside of the tray and the air fryer’s insert to remove food residue.
Soaking and wiping clean an air fryer
If there are any particularly stubborn burnt-on bits or baked-on grease, you can leave the air fryer compartment to soak in warm, soapy water to help loosen them.
You can then wipe clean as above. It is also a good idea to clean the inside of the air fryer tray on the appliance itself, as well as the outside of the air fryer.
You can also use the dishcloth to wipe down the whole air fryer to keep everything clean.
Dry thoroughly
Before reassembling your air fryer, make sure it has dried thoroughly.
You can leave it to drip and air dry if you have time, or use a towel to wipe away any water and soap inside the air fryer tray. A paper towel will also help to dry the air fryer.
I usually let it air dry for a few hours after thinking it’s dried, just to be sure. Then reassemble the air fryer parts and use them again next time.
Is the air fryer compartment and insert dishwasher-safe?
It is also worth checking the manual to see whether any parts of your air fryer are dishwasher safe.
You can save a lot of time and effort by simply putting them in the dishwasher and letting it do the hard work for you.
Does your air fryer need a deep clean?
Sometimes, you might find that dish soap isn’t enough, and your air fryer needs a deep cleaning.
This is when using a paste made with baking soda and water can be abrasive enough to remove stubborn food particles without damaging the nonstick coating.
Make sure you use a non-abrasive sponge when using this paste. Once you have applied the paste, you can rinse it off with warm, soapy water and clean it as suggested above.
