Win a Copy of My 12 Weeks to a Better Me Journal – UK Giveaway
I have a lovely giveaway for you today, and this one is a little bit different because the prize is something I actually created myself! I’m giving one lucky Just Average Jen reader the chance to win a copy of my 12 Weeks to a Better Me Journal, which I designed to help people work on their confidence, make time for themselves and recognise the progress they’re making, even when life isn’t going quite to plan.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that I’ve had a rather complicated relationship with weight loss, confidence and how I feel about myself over the years. I’ve lost a lot of weight, gained some back, tried different ways of getting healthier and learnt quite a few lessons along the way. One of the biggest is that changing how you look doesn’t automatically change how you feel about yourself.
I know how easy it is to decide that you’re going to change everything on Monday. You’re going to eat perfectly, exercise every day, drink more water, get organised and somehow become one of those people who always seems to have everything under control. Then Wednesday arrives, you’re tired, something unexpected happens and suddenly all those wonderful plans seem a little less achievable!
That’s one of the reasons I wanted to create a journal that encourages people to think about their wellbeing in a more realistic way. Not another book that makes you feel as though you’ve failed because you didn’t manage everything on your to-do list, but somewhere to think about what you want, how you’re feeling and the little things you’re doing well.
And because I know that not everyone wants to spend money on something they’re unsure about, I thought it would be lovely to give one away.

What is the 12 Weeks to a Better Me Journal?
The 12 Weeks to a Better Me Journal is a guided journal I created after spending years writing about weight loss, healthy living, confidence and the emotional side of trying to make changes to your life.
Although I originally started Just Average Jen to share my weight loss experiences, I’ve come to realise that feeling happier and more confident is about so much more than food or exercise.
You can lose weight and still criticise yourself every time you look in the mirror. You can achieve something you’ve been working towards for months and immediately start worrying about the next thing you need to improve. I know because I’ve done both!
I wanted my journal to encourage a different approach, with space to reflect on how you’re feeling, think about your goals and recognise the things that are going well alongside anything you’d like to change.
It includes opportunities to think about your habits, wellbeing and progress over twelve weeks, with prompts that encourage you to pay attention to more than just the obvious results.
I’ve shared more about why I created it, along with a closer look at the journal, in my article about the 12 Weeks to a Better Me Journal.
You can also see the journal on Amazon if you’d like to have a look before entering.
Why I decided to create my own self-esteem journal
When I lost over ten stone, I thought reaching my goal weight would somehow make everything else fall into place. I’d be confident, happy with my appearance and finally feel as though I’d achieved what I was supposed to.
Of course, life doesn’t work quite like that!
Losing weight was a huge achievement, and I’m still proud of the effort I put into it, but it didn’t suddenly make every insecurity disappear. I could still find things I didn’t like about myself, and I was often far better at noticing what I hadn’t achieved than recognising what I had.
Over the years, I’ve realised how important it is to work on the way you think about yourself rather than assuming that confidence will arrive when you reach a particular dress size or number on the scales.
That’s something I’ve written about in my article on how to stop worrying what other people think and build real confidence, because I think so many of us spend far too much time worrying about whether we’re good enough.
I also studied psychology at university, completing a Diploma of Higher Education, and have always been interested in why we think and behave the way we do. I’m not a psychologist or therapist, and my journal isn’t intended to replace professional support, but I wanted to use what I’ve learnt alongside my own experiences to create something practical and encouraging.
I particularly wanted to avoid making it all about weight loss. You might want to become more active, make more time for yourself, improve your eating habits, feel more confident or simply get into the habit of recognising something positive about your day.
Your goals don’t have to look like anyone else’s, and they certainly don’t have to involve losing weight.
Why twelve weeks?
I chose twelve weeks because it gives you enough time to explore what you want to change and notice how things are going without feeling as though you’re committing to an enormous project.
I think sometimes we put ourselves off making changes because we imagine everything has to be completely different by the end of the year. We start with huge expectations, and when things don’t happen as quickly as we’d hoped, it’s tempting to give up altogether.
Twelve weeks feels much more manageable to me.
You can think about what you’d like to achieve, make a few small changes and look back at what you’ve learnt. You might discover that something you thought was really important doesn’t matter quite as much as you expected, or that you’ve made progress in an area you hadn’t even considered.
I also wanted to make it clear that you don’t have to fill in every page perfectly. If you miss a day, have a difficult week or change your mind about a goal, you haven’t ruined anything.
It’s a journal, not an exam!
If you’re someone who enjoys a little encouragement, I’ve also shared 70 self-esteem quotes to help boost your confidence, which might give you a few ideas for things to write about.
Who would enjoy the 12 Weeks to a Better Me Journal?
I think the journal would particularly appeal to someone who likes the idea of making positive changes but doesn’t want another complicated plan to follow.
Perhaps you’ve been putting yourself last for a while and want to spend a little more time thinking about your own wellbeing. Maybe you’ve been struggling with confidence or have got into the habit of being unnecessarily hard on yourself.
Or perhaps you’re simply someone who loves stationery, notebooks and the idea of having a fresh place to write down your thoughts. I completely understand that, too!
I also think it could make a thoughtful gift for someone who enjoys journalling or setting personal goals, although I’d be careful about giving any self-improvement book to someone unless you know they’d appreciate it. Nobody wants to unwrap a present and wonder whether the person giving it thinks they need fixing!
One thing I would say is that you don’t need to be trying to lose weight to use this journal. Although my own experiences with weight loss influenced why I created it, the idea behind it is much broader.
It’s about making time to think about yourself and recognising that your wellbeing matters, too.

Can keeping a journal help with confidence and wellbeing?
I think writing things down can be surprisingly useful, particularly if you’re someone who tends to have a hundred thoughts going around your head at once.
Sometimes, when you’re having a difficult day, everything can feel much worse than it actually is. Taking a few minutes to write down what’s bothering you, what you’ve managed to do or what you’d like to approach differently can help you organise your thoughts.
It doesn’t have to involve pages and pages of writing either. Some days you might only want to jot down a couple of sentences, and that’s perfectly fine.
There is also research into expressive writing and journalling, although the results vary depending on the person and the type of writing involved. I wouldn’t claim that filling in a journal will cure anxiety, improve everyone’s self-esteem or transform your mental health in twelve weeks.
For me, the value is in having a little space to reflect without feeling that everything needs to be perfect.
The NHS advice on raising low self-esteem includes ideas such as recognising positive things about yourself, challenging unhelpful beliefs and setting manageable goals. These are useful principles to keep in mind when you’re trying to be a little kinder to yourself.
If low self-esteem or anxiety is seriously affecting your everyday life, it’s worth speaking to your GP or looking into professional support rather than relying on a journal alone.

My final thoughts
I know a journal isn’t going to change someone’s life overnight, and I wouldn’t want to pretend otherwise. I do think, though, that making a little time for yourself and noticing the things you’re doing well can be worthwhile, especially when you’re used to focusing on everything you haven’t managed to do.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the years, it’s that you can spend an awful lot of time waiting to become a different version of yourself before allowing yourself to feel happy or proud.
I wish I’d realised much earlier that I didn’t have to reach a particular weight, wear a particular dress size or achieve everything on my list before I was allowed to appreciate myself.
That’s really what I wanted to encourage when I created this journal.
Good luck if you enter the giveaway, and thank you for supporting Just Average Jen and my little journal. It still feels rather lovely to be able to say I’ve written something that other people can actually hold in their hands!
