Midweek Catch-up 09/7/25
Hello again! This week I have so much to talk about, so grab a cuppa and take a read! I hope you are well and love to hear from you, so do say hi in the comments!

Weight Loss, Exercise and Mental Health Catch-up
I think this week we need to start with mental health, as it has impacted my weight loss and exercise a fair bit. So, I still have a cough which is really getting me down and frustrating me as I am struggling to do much, so my brisk walking and exercise are out of the question. When I get a cough or cold-type bug, it always sits on my chest a bit longer than anyone else here due to my asthma, which isn’t particularly well controlled and quite severe. That said, this time I haven’t had issues with my oxygen dropping, so I haven’t ended up in the hospital, on antibiotics or extra steroids, so that is a bonus!
Also, my time of the month has decided to pay me another visit, which was unexpected and not welcome! Thanks perimenopause and gynae problems, I didn’t need that as well!
My weight loss is still going ok as far as I know. As you know from when I have talked about it previously, I am not knowing my weekly weight for my mental health. I am still eating healthily, and despite a stressful day today, I only had an iced latte with skimmed milk and sugar-free caramel at Costa.
Books
Book club was this week, which is something I really enjoy, so that brightened up my week. Here are some books I have finished this week (some I may have mentioned last week I was reading?) and my thoughts on them in case you fancy a read.
Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold – This was ok, I gave it 6/10 at book club because there were times I felt it went on and on and said in 10 pages what it could have said in 1. It is about a young girl who is murdered and follows her story in heaven/purgatory, where she watches her family, friends and killer and shares their stories. It was an ok book, but I certainly wouldn’t read it again.
The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins – This was great, and I would give it a 9 or 10 out of 10. Very much a typical psychological thriller with twists and turns throughout. I would recommend it for sure.
Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption by Steven King – If you love the film, like I do, then you would love the book too. There are a few small differences, but it is amazing, and to me it is an 11 out of 10!
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald – If you like the film, you will probably like the book. I didn’t like the film, so I am not sure why I thought I would read the book, but I listened to it on Audible. I didn’t enjoy it!
What am I reading now? Well, I am reading another Frieda McFadden book, I have nearly read them all now, so I will have finished that by next week and will tell you all about it then! For the book club this month, the theme is Summer Reading, with a focus on smutty beach reads etc. This really isn’t a genre I read, so I would love some suggestions, please.
Family and Life
We have been busy preparing everything for the holiday and printing hotel confirmations, etc. Inevitably, this meant ordering new ink for my printer, too! Why does it always run out when you need it? Luckily, I have an eco tank printer, so it isn’t expensive and lasts quite a while. I will be sharing more posts about the holiday soon, and be sure to follow me on social media to see what we are up to!
Today has been a stressful day. I needed new tyres on the car before our driving holiday, so it should have been straightforward. The problem started when my locking wheel nut key was missing, so I had to go to the dealership and get the bolts cut off and new ones put on, so a quick job became a 4-hour job. No fun!
This evening I am going to a charity cricket match, which should be fun. I am not a big sports fan, so I am taking my Kindle in case I get bored! I have no patience for sports, plus I like reading!
Ben has almost finished his college course and has done really well. On Friday, he is getting an award for his work in English, so that is really exciting. He hasn’t decided if he wants me to go yet to see his work and him getting his award, though – typical teenager!
Last week I had my nails done, which was a big thing for me – See them here on Instagram, here on Facebook or here on TikTok!
On The Blog
This week on the blog, I have a few new posts for you that you might have missed! Let me know what you think, and please, as always, do share anything that may interest your friends and family to help me get seen by even more people!
