A guest post from Beccy who runs Chez Beccy a luxury homeware brand and has discovered the importance of focusing on your mental wellbeing when changing her career.

Hello, hello! I’m Beccy. I am so excited to have been invited here by Jen to share my
top ten tips on how to take care of your mental well being.

I am the creative entrepreneur behind the luxury homeware brand Chez Beccy. At the
beginning of the pandemic, I was given this amazing gift of time which I used to take my hobby and grow into my dream online business. A huge part of being able to do this is having the right mindset. This has been a massive and amazing learning curve and I am really excited to share what I have learnt with you.

Thinking about your mindset

Two important points to note.

1) We all start at different points when it comes to our mindset and that’s OK.
2) We are all unique, so it’s about figuring out what works for you. It’s very much trial and error. It’s about tuning in to you!

Consistency is key. Just like getting fit physically, you can’t just go for one run and become fit.

It’s the same with our mental well being. The more you work on yourself, the more you raise your vibrations, the better you feel. And- do it even when you don’t feel like it!

10 things to do to boost your mental wellbeing

By doing these ten things you can really improve your mental wellbeing

Drink lots of water

If your body is hydrated it can function so much better. Our bodies are amazing machines that do so many things we aren’t even conscious of. Be kind and give your body the water it needs.

Create your own morning routine

The first 30 minutes of your morning will set the tone for the rest of your day. I like to have a fresh mint tea in the garden and just be. Spending time just connecting us back to our inner self and inner knowing. As a child, you might have been told off for daydreaming or being idle or lazy so we stop doing this at an early age. It is now time to change this and go back to daydreaming! I recommend reading Glennon Doyle’s book Untamed, it’s a great read and she talks about how she finds her inner knowing.

Mediation

This is also really beneficial for our soul connection. It helps calm your mind, relieves stress and helps us to tune into our energetic vibrations. There are some great guided meditations on websites like Insight Timer or Head Space. Try meditating at different times of day to see what works best for you.

Journal

This is a safe space for you to express your thoughts, intentions, dreams and desires. Just write whatever comes to mind. It’s a great way to clarify what is going on in your mind and create new neural pathways in your brain. You are much more likely to realise your dreams and desires if you write them down.

Have a digital detox

Limit the time you spend on social media and turn off all notifications on your phone. It’s more stressful and energy-draining than you realise being constantly on alert to your phone.

Having a good bedtime routine

This is just as important as having a morning routine. Getting enough sleep is so important for your body to function well. Sleep deprivation is a form of torture. Don’t do this to yourself, you deserve better!

Reduce blue light exposure in the evening

At the beginning and the end of the day, as the sun rises and sets, we have warm orange light, midday day we have a bright blue light. The blue light, from our smartphones, TV and computers, tricks your body into thinking it’s the middle of the day. Making it more difficult for us to sleep. Ideally, switch off these devices 2 hours before bed it can really improve your mental wellbeing.

Don’t drink caffeine in the evening

We all know caffeine is a stimulant, so having too much coffee or drinking it later on in the day will affect your sleep. Drinking a cup of camomile tea about 45 minutes before you go to bed, can help you get to sleep. It has a relaxing effect on the brain and can help you fall asleep.

Deep gratitude

End the day on a good note by thinking about something you are truly grateful for at that moment. What we focus on grows, so noticing all the wonderful things we do have in our lives enables us to notice even more!

Elevate your space

By elevating our environment we raise our vibrations. We are telling ourselves we are of value, we are enough. Something as simple as de-cluttering a shelf or a draw, lighting a beautifully scented candle or picking some wildflowers can inspire us and bring us joy.

Nurture the relationship you have with yourself just as you would any other important relationship. All of these things are simple to do, AND it’s doing them consistently that is key. My advice is to add one small new thing to your day at a time. If you go for too many changes all at once, you are more likely to fail and then give up.

We are much more powerful than we know. By doing all of these things daily, I’ve learnt to value myself, see that I am of worth and bring more joy into my life. I am able to be brave, stand up for my values, grow my business in an ethical way and live my dream life. You can do this too!

What’s your dream? What does your most beautiful life look like?
