This is a collaborative post.

I know that summer can be a wonderful time of year, especially if you love your garden. The good weather just seems to help things grow and the glow of the sun just makes everything look a bit nicer. Including the people, you come into contact with.

After all, people are much happier on a sunny day than on a wet and windy one. But, summer has its drawbacks, and while we love the heat we all have one thing in common.

We want to feel cooler when the heat can get too much. So how do we do it? I wanted to share with you some of my suggestions.

Get creative with your freezer

One of the first things to consider would be utilising your freezer a lot more and filling it with icy treats.

These don’t have to be unhealthy ice cream, although everyone does deserve a treat every now and again. You can buy healthy alternatives such as frozen yoghurt, for example, as well as fruit treats from the freezer aisle in your local store.

But a great tip is to make them yourself. Juicing your favourite fruits or creating smoothies and then freezing them in moulds. Lovely.

Air conditioning can be a lifesaver

Air conditioning can be your ultimate best friend in this heat, and so I understand that you may want to switch it on every now and again to give your home, and yourself, some relief from the heat.

However, if it isn’t working, or hasn’t been checked in a while then you may need the expertise of professionals.

It could be that you might need to replace a part or just get it up and running once more, but you will be glad of it for when those hottest days of the year roll around.

Think about your body temperature

It is often not about the temperature around you, but your actual body temperature that can help you to feel cool and calm.

This is when wearing cooler clothing and breathable materials, lighter fitting and airy. Drinking plenty of water to keep your body and yourself hydrated.

Using a bamboo cooling blanket such as the Avoalre arc-chill will help cool you easily so you can carry on with your day working, watching tv or even at night. It is made with cooling fabrics that when you try will surprise you. I didn’t expect it to be as cool as it is!

Having a flannel that you put in the fridge and apply to your head, your neck, and your chest. Also getting in a cool shower, especially if you are particularly warm or sweaty can be the ultimate relief to a hot day and have you feeling much better.

These are just a few things that can help make a difference to your overall body temperature, there are more ideas online.

Air your home out

Finally, it is worth remembering that you do need to give your home some attention to help keep the temperature down, and the best time is first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

By then the temperature will have dropped significantly, and you can open up the windows and allow the air to circulate.

During the day it is a good idea to keep curtains closed and close doors to rooms you don’t need to use. It helps to regulate the temperature.

I hope that these tips help you to keep cool during the summer weeks ahead.
