When a friend or family member is diagnosed with cancer it is difficult to know what to do to help. Often they will be inundated with flowers and somehow they just don’t seem right do they. Get well cards are the same aren’t they, not quite right.

What can you buy? I and many people I know from my Slimming World group were recently in this predicament. Our Slimming World Consultant was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

We wanted to do something collectively as a group but it is difficult to know what.

At the time we were not aware of Cancer Care Parcels and all put together instead to pay for a hot tub for the weekend for her and her family. After being sent this parcel to review I can tell you more.

A box with the contents of the cancer care parcel spread on a table with a cream tablecloth covered in hearts.

What is a Cancer Care Parcel?

The company behind the parcels is focussed entirely on suitable parcels for different people with cancer. The parcel I was sent is the Luxury Breast Cancer Gift for Women.

The other packages they do are for specific stages of cancer, for men, for children, teenagers and even for sickness as a side effect.

The company also sell things like end-of-chemo posters so they really are a great online shop for those specific gifts.

What does this Breast Cancer Gift contain?

This parcel contains all you can see in the photo above and listed below.

  • Supersoft Blanket
  • Supersoft Neck Cushion
  • Bed Socks
  • Relaxing Eye Pillow
  • Ribbed foot massager
  • Vaseline Lip Therapy
  • Peppermint Tea Bags
  • Anti-Nausea Wrist band
  • Adult colouring book and coloured pencils
  • Water Bottle
  • Earphones
  • Cool bag for travelling with lunch/small amounts of food.

Should a company be selling items like this? Is it not profiting from the sick?

This is a question that was raised amongst some bloggers discussing reviewing the parcel.

I personally believe that this is something people are looking for and that it is no more profiting from the sick than florists who sell bouquets at shops near hospitals.

I have never seen anything like this available but have numerous times discussed with people what gifts are suitable to buy for someone who has cancer.

Is it value for money?

Whilst it would be possible to buy all of the items separately for a little cheaper depending on how much you shop around it wouldn’t necessarily be practical.

I personally would rather buy a box of items like this and send them all in one bundle rather than ordering items separately and then making up a parcel myself.

Another thing to consider is if you want to send an item directly to the recipient this way it is just one parcel which is much easier for them to collect if they are out when it is delivered than 10 or so individual packages!

What am I doing with the parcel?

I am going to pass this on to the lady I mentioned at the beginning of this post who is undergoing another round of chemotherapy at the moment.

She struggles at times with not wanting to eat much and her mouth being sore so the bottle and cool bag I am sure will be helpful to her.

I also know that emotionally it is a difficult time for her and her family so the comfort items like the blanket even if not used by her will be a nice treat for her young daughter who also is finding this time difficult.

When I have given it to her, when she is well enough for visitors as she is going through a tough time at the moment, I will update this and let you know any specific feedback she had.

If this post has reminded you that you should be checking your breasts then Coppafeel is a great place to start for information on that.

I was sent this box for free in return for a review however all views above are my own.
