Midweek Catch-Up 8th April 2026
Hi again, everyone. I hope you are all well. Apologies for missing last week, with it being a 4 day working week I had a lot to cram into one week and Ben had some appointments too so I just struggled to keep up with anything. This week has also been much the same, but I am determined to get this catch-up out for you.

Health Catch-Up
This last fortnight I have been a little off plan with my eating in that I have had extra snacks, etc. However, I am working hard on other aspects of my eating, which I hope helps in the long term.
As a vegetarian, I often don’t get enough protein in my diet, and I am working on that by adding some chopped nuts to my breakfast cereal. I am also trying to increase how much I drink, but this is so hard. I have never been one to drink much (except at bottomless brunches I seem to manage then!) so this has been hard!
Ben is still having a lot of health issues and regularly attends the doctors, which is hard for him but also for me as his carer. I feel like I am a nurse in many ways, and it feels like this is never-ending, but I know it is harder for Ben, so I just put a smile on and carry on.
For Easter, in an effort to be good, I bought Ben an Easter egg, and Stuart and I had one to share, and we made it last a few days, so that is good and definitely marks a bit of a change in mindset.
Family Life
We haven’t been up to very much, given Ben’s health issues, but we did have my mum and step-dad over for Easter lunch, which was nice. I always enjoy cooking and hosting a family meal; I definitely enjoy it more than tidying the house first, that is for sure!
I have spent hours cleaning outside over the last few weeks, pressure-washing the patio and composite decking. I enjoy that kind of cleaning, you know, the sort where there is a huge difference? I was reviewing a pressure washer, and whilst it was hard work and good exercise, it was fun too!
Books
I haven’t read as much as usual lately, but here is what I have been reading and my thoughts.
I finished reading Has anyone seen my husband? by Kathleen Whyman on my Kindle, it was ok but to be honest, not as funny as I hoped and not one I would recommend. I would give it 4/10.
After the disappointment of Has anyone seen my husband? I found another book that professed to be “laugh out loud funny” and started that. Fingers crossed, but so far it is better already! This one is called Our House by Ellie Jacks. In the first chapter, I think I laughed more than in the whole of the other book, so that is a good start!
It is book club next week, this month was comedy! Next month is “scandel” so if you have any suggestions, as always, let me know!
