How to make a basic tomato pasta sauce base for pasta arrabbiata
I love pasta as a quick, easy meal to make without always needing a recipe. If you don’t have the time for this basic healthy pasta arrabbiata recipe or just fancy chucking something together, simply boil your pasta according to packet instructions in one pan and heat some low-calorie cooking spray in a frying pan.
Add chopped onion and garlic and fry for a couple of minutes. Then add any other vegetables you like, such as mushrooms and peppers; when they are cooked, add passata or tinned tomatoes and mixed herbs and warm through, then add to the cooked pasta. Simple but tasty!
I sometimes add some mozzarella balls to melt as it is stirred through for a cheesy extra! Alternatively, what about a sprinkle of Parmesan or a vegetarian alternative to Parmesan? Don’t forget to syn it, though, if you follow Slimming World!

Description
A delicious Pasta arrabbiata made that is healthy and nutritious so perfect for dieters and their friends or family to all enjoy together
Ingredients
low-calorie cooking spray
1 large onion, chopped finely
400g can of chopped tomatoes
1 clove of garlic, crushed
1 red chilli, finely sliced
vegetable stock cube, crumbled
1 tbsp tomato puree
300g pasta shapes of your choice
Instructions
Spray a lidded saucepan with low-calorie cooking spray and heat until hot.
Add the garlic and onion and cook for 5 minutes until soft and starting to brown.
Add the tomatoes, stock cube and sliced chilli with 100ml of boiling water, cover and simmer for 10 minutes then stir in the tomato puree.
Meanwhile cook the pasta in boiling water according to packet instructions.
Drain the pasta and add in the tomato sauce, stir well then serve.
Notes
This sauce freezes well so can easily be made in advance so you only need to cook the pasta on a busy night.

I love spice, so added a second chilli, but this recipe is quick and easy – loved it so much that I batch cooked some for the freezer too. Can vouch for it tasting just as great after being in there too!
