This homity pie is a really tasty comfort food type of meal whilst actually being healthy and full of vegetables but not feeling like diet food at all! I am positive you will love this homity pie recipe!
This is a great recipe for adding vegetables into the mashed potato to encourage children to have a healthier diet.

The importance of adding vegetables to your meals
If you follow Slimming World then you will know many vegetables are referred to as speed foods.
Vegetables are low in calories compared to their density. This essentially means that they fill you up with very few calories.
The more vegetables you have in a meal either as a side dish or mixed in with the meal itself the lower-calorie the meal tends to be. A filling but low-calorie meal is perfect for weight loss.
All my recipes include vegetables where possible but do feel free to add more as an accompaniment when you can. Always choose vegetables that you enjoy because otherwise you will begrudge eating them and are more likely to before long stop cooking them at all.
Trying vegetables cooked differently or with herbs and spices can make them a little more exciting too. Homity pie is lovely with all sorts of vegetables.
Etsy for weight loss
If you are like me and like buying fun new items to motivate your weight loss, then here are my favourites. Etsy is great for items for the kitchen and weight loss goodies. I could spend hours browsing there.
There are so many great food diaries too so you can record your meal plans and track your weight loss to keep a record of the good and bad weeks. Click the photos to have a look for yourself.
Budget shopping tips
I try to ensure all of the recipes I make are accessible for everyone. By this I mean that they do not use obscure hard to find ingredients.
I also believe that recipes should use as few ingredients as possible and avoid expensive ingredients. We would all much rather spend money on holidays than expensive ingredients wouldn’t we?
Buying herbs and spices in bulk is something I really recommend. It can save a lot of money in the long term but also mean you never run out! I find putting them on Amazon subscribe and save helps too!
Don’t forget to check out the yellow sticker reductions and freeze what you can.
Frozen vegetables are nutritionally just as good as fresh usually so do keep an eye for those too to save money. Do you have any particular frozen vegetables you love? Do share them with me it is always nice to hear people’s recommendations.
Comfort eating
It is easy when you are trying to lose weight to fall into the trap of comfort eating when you are feeling down. By finding low syn or syn free snack alternatives can help you avoid weight gain.
You do not need to just snack on fruit and vegetables to be healthy there are so many other alternatives. This homity pie is a really comforting type of recipe.
If you find that you are regularly feeling down and snacking then maybe you need to address this as possible depression and consider seeing your GP. We all have struggled every now and then so it really isn’t something to be ashamed of.
Another option instead of eating at all could be to find something else to do instead of eating when you are feeling down. Give it some thought and see if you can come up with any strategies to help yourself.
Why you should enjoy desserts on a diet
If you are following a diet you will know how careful you feel you should be with your calories, syns or points. One good way to make your smaller dessert more filling is to add fruit or another low-calorie food. Fat-free fromage frais is a great choice and a great addition to most desserts or have a smaller piece.
If you prefer you can add a little flavouring or sweetener too. My favourite sweetener is Canderel Sugarly.
Do you ever have a glass of water before your dessert? Next time give it a try, you will naturally eat less as the water fills you up a little. A perfect way to enjoy the dessert you want and still lose weight.
