Slimming World Swips Calculator (Syns Calculator Updated for 2026)
This Slimming World Swips calculator (previously known as a Syns calculator) is one of your essentials for following Slimming World in 2026. If you’ve been following Slimming World for a while, you’ll already know about one of the biggest changes for 2026 – Syns are now called Swips.
But don’t worry… although the name has changed, the way you calculate them hasn’t.
To make things simple, I’ve created this free Swips calculator so you can quickly estimate the Swips value of your favourite foods.
Just Average Jen is an independent blog not connected with any weight loss plan. Please check nutritional values and/or syns/Swips yourself. Information correct at time of writing – always check official Slimming World materials for updates.

What are Swips on Slimming World?
Swips stands for Slimming World Individual Picks.
They are the foods that don’t fall into Free Foods or Healthy Extras – typically things like chocolate, crisps, sauces, alcohol, and treats.
The key thing to remember:
Swips are exactly the same as Syns – just renamed
Slimming World made the change to create a more positive mindset around food and remove any feelings of guilt associated with the old term.
Has anything changed apart from the name?
Nope — and this is the bit people overthink.
- You still have a daily allowance (usually around 15)
- You still track treats the same way
- You still balance Free Foods, Healthy Extras, and Swips
The only real change is the wording, not the system itself.
Swips Calculator
Use this simple calculator to estimate Swips from nutritional values.
How it works
The formula is the same unofficial method used for Syns:
- Calories ÷ 20 = Swips
- If the food is high in protein, divide by 25 instead

Important disclaimer
This calculator is unofficial and only provides an estimate.
Slimming World uses its own exact values in the app and groups, so always double-check if accuracy is important.
Tips for using your Swips wisely
- Plan them into your day rather than “saving them all”
- Use them for foods you really enjoy
- Look for low Swip alternatives where possible
- Remember: no food is banned – it’s all about balance
Why does protein affect Swips?
You might notice there’s an option to mark a food as high in protein, and this can change the Swips value slightly.
This is because foods that are higher in protein are generally more filling and tend to have a different nutritional balance. When using the unofficial calculation, these foods are often divided by 25 instead of 20, which can result in a slightly lower Swips value.
It’s not an exact science, and Slimming World doesn’t publish the full formula they use, but this method gives a good estimate for many everyday foods.
As a rough guide, foods with around 10g of protein or more per serving are often considered “high protein” for this calculation.
Swips Calculator FAQs
All the answers you may need!
Are Swips the same as Syns?
Yes, Swips are exactly the same as Syns, just with a new name. The way they are calculated and tracked has not changed, only the wording. Just like you used to estimate syn values for an item, you now estimate swips.
How many Swips can I have per day?
Most people on Slimming World have around 15 Swips per day, but this can vary slightly depending on your personal plan. Always check your official guidance if you are unsure.
How do you calculate Swips?
A common unofficial method is:
- Calories divided by 20
- Or calories divided by 25 for high-protein foods
This gives an estimate, but the official Slimming World app will always be the most accurate. This calculator is perfect for Slimming World followers everywhere and even perfect for Ireland where Slimming World is less common but loved.
What counts as a high protein food?
Generally, foods with around 10g or more of protein per serving are considered high protein when estimating Swips.
Examples include:
- Chicken breast
- Greek yoghurt
- Eggs
- Lean meats
Is this Swips calculator accurate?
This calculator gives an estimate based on widely used methods. Slimming World uses its own system, so values in the official app may differ slightly. You can use the calculator however you choose so you can look at What is 300 calories in syns or how many syns are in 240 calories, obviously now it is swips but the principle is the same, just do what works for you!
Can you have too many Swips?
Swips are designed to be enjoyed as part of a balanced plan. Regularly going over your daily allowance could affect your progress, but the plan is flexible and no foods are completely off limits.
Why did Slimming World change Syns to Swips?
The change was made to create a more positive and flexible mindset around food, helping remove negative associations and encourage balance rather than restriction.
What do the NHS Say?
Slimming World bases its guidance on general NHS advice, but it is always helpful to read the NHS eating well guide for general, non-promotional healthy living advice.

Moving Forwards with Swips
The move from Syns to Swips might feel like a big change at first, but in reality, nothing about the plan has changed.
If anything, it’s a positive shift towards a more flexible and guilt-free approach to food — and honestly, that’s a win.
