Midweek Catch-Up 22th April 2026
Hello again, I hope everyone is well. I have a few things to share and update, so grab a cuppa and have a read.

Health Catch-Up
This week, I had my next hormone-blocking injection, which I am so thankful for. They have honestly changed my life. I am due to see the gynaecologist again in the next couple of months and hope they make a plan moving forward, as whilst I can stay on these injections long-term, they are not ideal. I really just want a hysterectomy and an ongoing plan. If it is endometriosis, which everything points to, including the way they are treating me, then a hysterectomy wouldn’t cure that, but would help, I think. I just want them to look at the situation long term, as I am 45 and essentially that is still quite young, given I can not take HRT, etc. I am, of course, now in a medical menopause and have been all the time I am on these injections, but my problems will restart as soon as the injections are stopped!
My weight loss is going ok at the moment. I am more motivated, and the changes I have made to have more protein seem to be helping me feel full for longer. I am trying a few other things, but I will share those when I am more certain of how they are affecting me.
Ben is still having a lot of health issues, it is one thing after another with him at the moment and being a carer is so hard. I love him to bits, so of course I will do anything as needed, but gosh, it is draining at times. Did I tell you all I started a local carers group for unpaid carers like myself? It is a lovely group and definitely helps to meet with others who know how draining caring alongside working can be.
Family Life
We have been planning our holiday again lately, which is fun but also hard work. We always need somewhere with either adjoining rooms or a bedroom and a separate room with a sofa bed or another bed. It is important to us that Ben still has his privacy, as do we, but he also needs us close by, partly because of his needs and partly because he is impossible to wake up!
It is almost the end of the football season, which, as usual, means I have Stuart at home more. It is nice, but gosh, I like my space and notice the difference! Do you have a partner who loves football and have this difficulty too?
Last weekend, Ben and I went to see the latest Emma Kenny show at the theatre. It was her Murderous Minds tour. I really enjoyed it, but I do think her first ones were better, and now it almost feels like she is making more and more shows because she can and people will pay. I guess, though, why not! Would I go to another one? I am not sure, probably as otherwise I would get FOMO!
Books
I have been so busy lately, I haven’t really had a hard time reading, unfortunately. Here are a few I have started and have thoughts on, though!
Emma Kenny’s latest book, Killer Cults, I am listening to on Audible with Ben. This means it is slow going as it is only when we are both in the car, but it is nice to do together. We are both enjoying it so far, though I normally listen on 1.75x or 2x, so listening to it at normal speed is a bit strange!
I started the latest book from Freida McFadden, The Dinner Party, but I really didn’t enjoy it. I usually love all of her books, but this has the choose-your-own-path format, and I just couldn’t get on with it at all.
I also finished reading Our House by Ellie Jacks. It was pretty good. I’m not sure it was hilarious all the way through, but it had its moments and was a good read nonetheless.
I need to get back into reading again, but I just feel like I never have time, and I have spent a lot of my free time searching for hotels for our holiday! I can’t wait to take my Kindle on holiday and read lots again, in the sun.
