If you are looking for a healthy tacos recipe that is healthy and easy to make, I have the perfect recipe for you. All the family will enjoy it and you can easily adapt it to swap ingredients they are less keen on such as removing salsa etc.
Just Average Jen is an independent blog. It is not connected with any weight loss plan. None of the contributors have received training from them or worked for them.
It is the reader’s responsibility to check nutritional values, such as Slimming World syn values and WW points. Additionally, they must check any other allowances, as any given are approximate.
Top Tips for making these tacos
If you want to use frozen chicken always defrost it before cooking. This is less likely to cause food poisoning, is easier to cut up and helps it absorb better flavours.
Make this healthy tacos recipe at the time you will be eating it. Whilst it can be reheated and then added to tortillas the next day it is much easier to just make when you want it!
Alternatives to wraps
If you don’t want to use wraps in this recipe it will be quite a different meal however why not consider using pitta bread or just enjoying the taco mix in a bowl with extra salad?
Tortillas for healthy tacos recipes on diets
If you follow Slimming World, Weight Watchers (WW), Noom or any other weight loss plan you can usually count the ingredients within this recipe in your allowances. It is of course important to check yourself any plan you follow and remember all nutritional information and ingredients are found in the recipe card below.
These tacos on Slimming World
It is easy to panic when you see a recipe using tortillas or wraps on Slimming World as they can be high in syns. Whilst this isn’t always the case it is worth remembering that you have a daily syn allowance so you can enjoy foods that are not syn free and if you love them then why not.
There are no wraps or tortillas which are syn free on Slimming World, unfortunately. There are also only a few choices at the moment that you can have as your healthy extra b choice.
Healthy Extra B choice wraps
BFree have a variety of wraps which are all perfect for different diets such as gluten-free etc. Check each item for specific ingredients.
Some wraps can be enjoyed as a healthy extra b choice, there are not many but I have listed the ones I am aware of below. Of course, always check the Slimming World website for the latest values.
- BFree Quinoa and chia seed wraps, wheat and gluten free 6 pack – 42g, 5 syns each or healthy extra b choice.
- BFree Multigrain wraps, wheat and gluten-free 4 or 6 pack – 42g, 4.5 syns each or healthy extra b choice.
- WW White wraps 6 pack – 48g each 5.5 syns or healthy extra b choice.

Slimming World yns for the whole healthy tacos recipe
Aside from the wraps, we have discussed above, the only syns in this recipe are sugar, salsa, and cheese. Whilst initially this makes them sound so unhealthy don’t panic! You can make them syn free!
If you use healthy extra b choice wraps you can easily remove the syns for the wraps.
It is easy to make salsa yourself, here is one of my recipes for salsa but you can find others here.
The teaspoon of sugar in this tacos recipe does not need to be counted as when it makes 10 tacos the amount you eat is so minimal it really isn’t necessary to count it.
The cheese can be adapted slightly and enjoyed as part of your healthy extra a allowance. Monterey Jack cheese isn’t considered by Slimming World as one of their healthy extra a options but simply swapping it to cheddar cheese and choosing the weight the amount you have can make this easy.
The recipe calls for 120g of cheese but really the choice is yours, calculate the number of syns or portion of your allowance you want to use and that’s the amount of cheese to add to your individual tacos!

Easy recipe to make 10 tacos for all the family to enjoy
Ingredients
600g boneless, skinless chicken breast (cut into small cubes)
1 tsp sugar
1/2 lime juiced (about 1 tsp.)
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
2 cloves garlic (minced)
2 spring onions chopped
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. chopped fresh coriander
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
10 flour tortillas – street taco size (6 inch)
large handful shredded lettuce
1 tomato diced
60g salsa
120g grated Monterey Jack cheese
Instructions
Using a medium-sized frying pan or skillet, add chicken and sauté over medium-high heat for about 15 minutes or until golden brown
Add in lime juice, sugar, red wine vinegar, minced garlic, coriander and spring onions. Sprinkle with salt, and pepper while cooking to your tastes.
Reduce heat and allow to simmer until chicken has absorbed wet ingredients.
Warm tortillas in a small frying pan or skillet flipping on each side or place in a warm oven for a few minutes.
Each taco will use 1/10th of the chicken mixture. Fill each tortilla with chicken and add in lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and top with salsa if desired.
These are so flavourful you cannot even tell they are healthy!
