Easy kebabs with Chicken/Tofu and Geeta’s Sauces
In the hot weather, one of my favourite go-to meals is kebabs or skewers. They are so easy to make and put on the BBQ or cook under the grill. In my opinion, the way to make the best kebabs is to find the perfect sauces. When I was sent these sauces by Geeta’s I couldn’t wait to try them out.

Whilst you could marinate the meat or tofu before cooking this isn’t always easy. With children who may not like them or all liking different flavours the easy solution is to make skewers then add sauce like these from Geeta’s when finished to serve.
The best meats for homemade kebabs
Whether you’re a grill master or a kitchen newbie, choosing the right meat can make all the difference. Here’s a breakdown of the best meats to skewer.
1. Lamb
Lamb is the classic choice for kebabs and for good reason. Its rich flavor pairs beautifully with a variety of spices and marinades. Opt for cuts like leg of lamb or shoulder for a tender, juicy bite. Just remember, while you won’t be herding sheep in your backyard, the grocery store is a close second.
Tips:
- Marinate with garlic, rosemary, and olive oil for a Mediterranean twist.
- Cook on medium heat to keep it juicy.
2. Beef
Beef lovers, rejoice! Flank steak or sirloin are excellent choices for beef kebabs. They hold up well on the grill and absorb flavors like a sponge. Plus, they’re perfect for those who prefer their meat with a little more chew.
Tips:
- Try a soy sauce, ginger, and honey marinade for a sweet-salty combo.
- Aim for medium-rare to keep every bite tender.
3. Chicken
Chicken is a versatile and budget-friendly option for kebabs. Choose thigh meat for its extra flavour and juiciness compared to breast meat. Besides, who doesn’t love a classic chicken skewer, especially when it’s clucking delicious?
Tips:
- Marinate in yogurt, lemon, and spices like turmeric and cumin for a flavourful punch.
- Cook over medium-high heat to ensure crispy edges.
4. Pork
Pork is a deliciously underrated choice for kebabs. Tenderloin or shoulder cuts are perfect for absorbing marinades and achieving that melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Tips:
- A marinade with apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and mustard will elevate your pork kebabs.
- Grill slowly over medium heat for even cooking.
5. Seafood
For a lighter option, seafood kebabs are a fantastic choice. Shrimp and salmon are top contenders, offering a fresh, delicate flavour that’s hard to resist. Plus, they’re a sure-fire way to reel in compliments at your next BBQ.
Tips:
- Use a citrusy marinade with dill for shrimp or a teriyaki glaze for salmon.
- Seafood cooks quickly, so keep an eye out to avoid overcooking.
6. Vegetarian Alternatives
Okay, not a meat, but let’s not forget our veggie lovers. Tofu or halloumi cheese can make for a delightful plant-based kebab option. Pairing these with colourful vegetables can add variety and flavour to your skewer line-up.
Tips:
- Marinate tofu in soy sauce and sesame oil, or sprinkle halloumi with oregano and olive oil.
- Grill on high heat for a nice char without losing moisture.

Chicken/Tofu Kebab recipe with Geeta’s Sauces
A recipe for amazing Indian style kebabs for all the family using Geeta’s sauces to add flavour. Easy quick recipe for the BBQ.
- Total Time: 1 hour
- Yield: 8 Skewers 1x
Ingredients
500 grams Chicken breasts, chicken thigh or Firm tofu cut into large chunks
3 Bell peppers cut into large chunks
2 Red Onions (peeled and quartered)
1 Cup Basmati rice
1 bottle Geeta’s Mumbai mango and lime sauce
Instructions
Marinate the chicken or tofu pieces in 4 tbsp of Geeta’s Mumbai mango and lime sauce in a large bowl. Leave to marinate for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile prepare all the vegetables or maybe just have a relax!
After the 15 minutes use bamboo skewers to make the kebabs using pepper chunks, onion quarters and chicken/tofu.
Place skewers on a grill pan, baking tray or bbq and cook on a medium high heat for 30 minutes, turnings frequently. If using tofu grease proof paper can help as otherwise it easily sticks!
Meanwhile, place the rice and 3 cups of water into a saucepan and bring to the boil then simmer until all water absorbed.
Serve skewers on a bed of rice with bottles of additional sauce if preferred.
