35+ Easy Crimpit Recipes and Filling Ideas You’ll Want to Make Again and Again
If you’ve recently bought a Crimpit, you’re probably wondering what else you can make in it besides a simple ham and cheese toastie.
I was exactly the same.
Once I’d made my first couple, I quickly realised that a Crimpit is far more versatile than I’d expected. Whether you’re trying to save money, use up leftovers, meal prep lunches or simply make quick snacks, there are so many delicious combinations to try.
The best thing is that you don’t need expensive ingredients. Many of my favourite Crimpit recipes are made with whatever happens to be in the fridge.
If you’re looking for inspiration, here are plenty of sweet and savoury Crimpit filling ideas to get you started.

What Is a Crimpit?
A Crimpit is a kitchen gadget designed to seal bread or wraps around a filling, creating a pocket that’s perfect for air frying, baking or toasting.
Think of it as a quick way to make homemade toastie pockets without needing specialist pastry skills.
Because the filling is completely enclosed, it tends to stay warm and melty while the outside becomes deliciously crisp.
They’re great for lunches, quick dinners, snacks and even desserts.
Tips for Making the Best Crimpit Recipes
Before I share my ideas, here are a few things I’ve learned.
- Don’t overfill the bread/wrap or it can split while cooking.
- Spread fillings evenly to help the edges seal properly.
- Slightly stale bread often seals better than very fresh bread.
- Butter or lightly spray the outside before air frying if you want an extra crispy finish.
- Leave a small border around the edge so the bread or wrap crimps securely.
- Allow very hot fillings to cool slightly before eatingāthey stay surprisingly hot inside!

Can You Make Crimpits in an Air Fryer?
Absolutely. In fact, many people think the air fryer gives the best results.
Cook at around 180°C for 6-10 minutes, turning halfway if needed, until the bread is crisp and golden.
Cooking times vary depending on your air fryer and the thickness of your bread, so check them after about six minutes.
Can You Freeze Crimpits?
Yes. This makes them perfect for meal prep. Simply prepare your Crimpit recipes, freeze them on a tray until solid, then transfer them to freezer bags or containers.
They can usually be cooked straight from frozenājust add a few extra minutes to the cooking time. Always make sure the filling is piping hot before serving.
The Best Bread for Crimpits
Medium sliced bread is usually the easiest to work with. Very thick bread can sometimes be harder to seal, while very thin bread may tear. Wholemeal, white, seeded and gluten-free bread can all work, although some gluten-free loaves may need a little extra care when sealing.
The best option is bread thins; they are the perfect size and work amazingly!
Which Wraps are Best for Crimpits
I find the large size (approx 9 inches) the best size for the Crimpits. Smaller wraps could be used, but the tool wouldn’t easily crimp them!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you use wraps in a Crimpit?
Some people have success with soft tortillas, but the Crimpit is designed primarily for sliced bread.
Can you cook Crimpits in the oven?
Yes. Bake until the bread is crisp and golden, turning once during cooking if needed.
Can you make Crimpits ahead of time?
Yes. They’re ideal for meal prep and can be stored in the fridge for a day or two before cooking.
What fillings should you avoid?
Very watery ingredients or sauces can make the bread soggy or cause leaks. If using tomatoes, mushrooms or cooked vegetables, pat away excess moisture first.
Does the Crimpit tool go in the microwave, oven or air fryer?
No! They can sometimes be microwaved for a few seconds to crimp but do not cook in the toaster, microwave, air fryer, oven or anywhere else! Check the instructions on the box if you are unsure.
My Favourite Crimpit Combinations
If I had to choose just a few favourite crimpit recipes, these would definitely be near the top of the list:
- Chicken, pesto and mozzarella
- Ham, mature cheddar and pickle
- Leftover chilli with a little grated cheese
- Tuna, sweetcorn and light mayonnaise
- Pizza-style pepperoni and mozzarella
- Apple with cinnamon and a little light cream cheese for something sweet
The thing I love most about a Crimpit is that it encourages you to use what you already have. Instead of wondering what to make for lunch or throwing away leftovers, you can usually turn them into something warm, crispy and surprisingly satisfying.
Once you’ve started experimenting, you’ll probably find yourself coming up with your own favourite combinations too. Let me know what you enjoy in the comments below.
