This Jamaican beef stew is a spicy delicious warming meal that is easy to make in the slow cooker for a full meal when you get home.
Choosing the best ingredients for this recipe
The best beef for the Jamaican beef stew is lean stewing steak as it cooks perfectly and makes the recipe flavourful without excess fat.
Whilst this Caribbean beef stew recipe does recommend red peppers if you only have another colour feel free to substitute those as the taste will only be changed a little.
If you prefer to make your own seasonings you can make jerk seasoning yourself easily.
How to make this recipe without a slow cooker
If you do not have a slow cooker then the best way to make this Caribbean beef stew recipe is to brown the beef off and partially cook then put all ingredients into a casserole dish in the oven for around 3 hours at 180°c.
It is much better in the slow cooker though so I would advise just buying one if you do not own one as there are so many amazing recipes you can make in a slow cooker.
What makes this recipe Jamaican or Caribbean?
The selection of spices in this recipe is what gives it a Jamaican taste. Don’t let looks deceive you, it may sound like it doesn’t have enough chilli or spices in but when slowly cooked it is actually quite a spicy Caribbean beef stew.
My advice would be to make it like this before deciding if you want to adapt the recipe next time. Unless of course, you like the hottest foods ever, in which case maybe chuck another 6 chillies in!

Massive hit with the hubby and me… the Jamaican flavours were intense but perfectly balanced. Gorgeous! Loved the ease of the dish too – slow cookers are the best.
