Midweek Catch-Up 10/12/25
Hi again, I hope everyone reading this is well. It is already almost the middle of December, where is the time going? Are you doing Elf on the Shelf? I do not do it, and I am very glad I don’t. I haven’t seen anyone doing it, not to be stressed by it! Have you finished all your Christmas shopping yet?

Christmas
I can’t believe how suddenly we are a few weeks from Christmas and I am ordering food, finalising my shopping orders for presents and again being asked why I am so hard to buy for. Is anyone else difficult to buy for? What do you ask for? I don’t have many hobbies, mostly just reading, which isn’t expensive anyway!
Health
This week has been a tough one for me. My breathing has been progressively getting worse this year, with a persistent cough and dipping oxygen levels. It is something I have had issues with for years, but that doesn’t make it any less stressful. I had a CT scan this week on my chest to try to find out what is going on. There have been a few ideas thrown out, but until I know for sure, I am not thinking about it too much.
I am still in menopause due to the injections I have told you about before. I can definitely feel an increase in symptoms now, but I am just about managing. I still don’t know what has caused all my issues, but endometriosis or adenomyosis are looking most likely due to nothing showing on my hysteroscopy this week, and other tests showing nothing. I am really not sure what the next step will be.
Ben is still recovering from his operation but the wound is gradually getting smaller so an end is definitely in sight. The poor lad is extremely sick of the packing and dressing once or twice a day!
My mental health is still not too great, but I have started the process of getting some more support with that, which is good! It isn’t always easy to admit you need help, though, is it?
Life
This week, we have put up the Christmas tree, which was nice and definitely made me feel more Christmassy, and all three of us have enjoyed that. Ben and I have enjoyed watching some episodes of 24 Hours in Police Custody. Stuart had been building his latest Lego set (something from Star Trek, but I can’t remember its name!). I have been watching surgery programmes on BBC iPlayer whilst I work, which I really enjoy. I would have loved to become a doctor. Ben is squeamish at blood and often faints if he sees things like that, so he wouldn’t watch it with me, and Stuart just isn’t a fan!
Book Reviews
Life has been so hectic lately that my reading has had to take a bit of a back seat. I have just read The Christmas Party by Mikayla Davids, which was reasonably good. I did find it quite predictable and slow, though. I am now reading the follow-on book, as I felt like it ended without really ending! So far, I have found that the follow-up book predominantly reiterates a lot of the first book whilst telling the story; neither is a long book, so they should have just been one in my opinion, and not a fantastic page-turner at that!
In the book club Secret Santa, I got Lynda La Plante’s Hidden Killers. I have never read her books, so I can’t wait to start. Have you read it? Let me know in the comments below.
