The best gifts for families and couples gifts this Christmas

Sometimes, it is easier to buy a gift for a family at Christmas to share rather than individual gifts. Here, I wanted to share some of my favourite ideas for all the family to share or gifts for couples you can buy this year. I feel I have options for all budgets, so do consider buying a sharing gift if you are on a budget or one of the family members is hard to buy for!

Something Personal

I always think photo books make lovely personalised gifts. This one is Ben’s favourite football photos from over many years. You can make them with as many photos as you like in any layout to remind them of a favourite holiday, children’s younger years, or perhaps just a selection of fun photos of all the family. This photo book is from VistaPrint and was around £30, but it does have a lot of pages!

This gorgeous candle is personalised with two names on the top and can also have a message underneath. It would make a lovely gift for a couple and with many scents available, you are sure to find something perfect. This particular one is £24.99 from Kindred Fires, and if you sign up for their emails, you get a 10% discount!

These bracelets are stunning and make a gorgeous mother-and-daughter gift, with each having a matching bracelet to wear. Little Star have a huge range of these bracelets and this specific set is £70 and can even be engraved!

For the home

Woodwick candles are so popular because they crackle as they burn, which makes them sound and smell amazing, so they make great gifts. This gorgeous one is available from Perfume Direct and is usually £25.99 but is currently on offer for £16.99.

This stag antique finish style candle holder is lovely and would be great as an ornament and candle holder but also as a table centrepiece so might be a nice gift if they like to hold dinner parties or have a nice dining table they like to decorate. It is available from Pagazzi for £45.

For an eco-conscious family, how about some reusable toughened glass straws and insulated tumblers? The glass straws have bamboo cases which make them great to take out and about with them.

I love the idea of the reusable tumblers to take a glass of wine in our hot tub, as glass isn’t safe in hot tubs due to the risk of breakages and then injury! Check both the reusable insulated cups and the glass straws out to see if they would be perfect for your family.

Are you looking for a gift for a cheese-loving family? Whilst you might not fancy buying them some nice blocks of cheese, a nice cheese board would make a lovely gift. This Mice cheeseboard is gorgeous and such good quality with cute little mice fixed in two of the corners. It also goes well with the cheese picks and cheese pick stand (triangle of cheese shape) for a perfect gift. The cheeseboard is currently £58.50 and the Cheese picks set is currently £35.10.

This cocktail lounge sign from Arighi Bianchi would make a lovely gift for their home. A stylish brand with a number of gifts like this you are sure to find something different and unique, there is a similar VIP Lounge sign you might like too.

For a more practical gift how about an EZVIZ video doorbell? We have previously reviewed an EZVIZ security camera which is amazing so I don’t doubt this video doorbell will be just as good when set up. It has great night vision, is battery-operated so easy to set up and 2K video. The EZVIZ DB2 video doorbell is usually £84.00 but is currently on offer for £67.99.

Food and drink gifts for a family or couple

A tub of sweets is an easy gift for a family to share and this Swizzels tub is a great choice for all the family. Whether they love double lollies, drumsticks or Squashies they will have plenty to choose from. These tubs are available at most supermarkets with various offers in the run-up to Christmas, or add it to your next Amazon order.

If you are looking for something edible for a family where one or more members have allergies then look out for the Nomo products. I love Nomo chocolate and despite it being vegan and free from, it tastes just like regular chocolate! This selection box is just £4 on the Nomo website. If you are buying for a family who love cooking together or who are perhaps fans of an Indian takeaway but trying to save money this Spice Kitchen Spice Tin. It makes a lovely gift and will help them to make more lovely meals so is useful as well as a good gift.

This shows a little better the contents of the spice tin, lovely tins of spices as well as a recipe book and spice spoon. The set is £35 from The Spice Kitchen.

Opies fruit jars make amazing gifts for a family who loves a little luxury or perhaps a family who always buys the budget options for everything but deserves a treat. Check out the full range from Opies and buy them directly or look out in shops such as Waitrose and on Amazon for specific varieties.

The King of Soho has some lovely gins, these are London Dry Gin and Variorum Gin, they have RRPs of £34.95 and £33.95 respectively but at the time of writing, the pink gin (in the red bottle) is on offer on Amazon. They are both premium gins that would make a lovely gift as well as look nice. Definitely a great gift for a gin loving family.

Another great gift for a gin lover would be a subscription or one-off box from the Craft Gin Club. This is just one box as an example of the sort of goodies you get.

Are you buying for gin lovers who are trying to drink less alcohol or perhaps will be doing dry January? Clean Co specialises in alcohol-free drinks, and this Clean G is a non-alcoholic drink very much like rhubarb gin. Currently, at £16 a bottle, it is a great price for a gift too.

If you are buying a gift for a family who love to try new foods and drinks or is a big fan of Asian foods then you really should check this Asian Food box out! If you are buying a bottle of gin or another spirit then why not consider buying some quality premium mixers to go with it? This is the Exploration pack for £20.15 and includes a selection of tonic waters, ginger beer, ginger ale, grapefruit soda, and other mixers they will enjoy trying. If you want an all round present then why not consider a hamper? This chocolate lovers collection from Green & Blacks is a perfect gift for a chocolate-loving family as there is something for everyone whether they like dark, milk or white chocolate and the box is £25 which is perfect for a gift for a family to share.

This giant Dairy Milk bar might be another option for a family of chocolate lovers. It is £12 for 850g so will keep them going for a while!

Games and activities for families and couples

Sometimes, a family game or activity the family could do together would be the perfect gift, either on its own or with some chocolates or a bottle of wine depending on the family you are buying for!

Wanna Bet? Is a card game perfect for families with children age maybe 10+ in my opinion. The game consists of essentially betting whether you can complete a task or not, if you do complete it you win, if they guess correctly they double their stake. A fun game that could be adapted to last whatever length of time the family have available. It is £14 from Oliver Bonas.

The Wheel board game is a fun board game that is an adaption of the popular game show on TV. It includes a large spinning wheel and is ideal for families with children aged 10+. It is available on Amazon for £23.49 at the moment.

Lost 4 Words is a quick-fire word game perfect for families with children age 10 and above. The aim of the game is to pit your wits and knowledge against your opponents and the clock! It’s a brilliant family game! Available with an RRP of £19.99 it can be bought from Happy Puzzle and Amazon.

Popmaster is a fun family game perfect for a music-loving family. Based on the original radio game they will battle to be the best at pop trivia! With this special edition board game, they will also have exclusive access to additional digital features including soundbites from the show, 3-in-10 questions from the real Ken Bruce himself, and bonus point questions not available on the standard edition. Mind Meld is a popular TikTok Trend, have you seen it? It is a fun adult game that is also family-friendly. It can be played with two or more people. The aim of the game is to both think of the same word using telepathic powers with the Mind Meld headband and race against other players to think of matching words based on the prompt cards. It is addictive and fun but hard to describe so check it out on Amazon if you think this might be a great gift for the family or couple you are buying for.

A game for ages 14+ Master Dater would make a great gift for families with teenagers or adults. Using the cards the purpose of the game is to create the most unusual character with a dating profile and try to convince your opponents he is worth dating! The Limitless board game based on Ant and Dec’s popular TV show is great for families with kids 8+. As they are trivia questions, it would be best with children to have them teamed up with an adult for the most fun in my opinion but it is a fun game the family will enjoy. The Limitless board game is £24.99 from Gingerfox.

Joking Hazard is a fun game for groups of adults where you use the cards to make your own comic strip and aim for the funniest comic strip to beat your opponents! Is this the sort of game the family you are buying for would love? If so, it is available from Amazon for £26.97.

New Phone, Who Dis? is a card game by the makers of the popular game we love as a family called What Do You Meme? It is suitable for ages 17+ and the aim of the game is to create the funniest and most ridiculous inbox and reply cards to win the game. The game is currently £19.99 from Amazon and in my eyes worth every penny!

Hotel is a classic five-star family game. the aim of the game is to build luxury hotels all around the world and make your opponents pay to stay. The more you build the richer you get. It is aimed at families with children 8+ and would make a great gift for budding property tycoons or families who love Monopoly as it has a similar theme. Hotel is available from Smyths Toys and Amazon.

HeyDoodle colouring mats make a great gift for a younger family if you want to buy something the kids will love because you are perhaps buying wine for the parents! It is a reusable silicone mat they can colour and wipe off time and time again. HeyDoodle mats are available from HeyDoodle for £21.99 each.

Host Your Own Family Quiz Night is a great quiz game from Cheatwell that is ideal for families with children aged 8+. There are questions for kids and adults so it is a great family activity you can play with any number of players so perfect for family gatherings. The game is available from Amazon for £18.49. Similar to the game above, this travel version is a smaller version and perfect for families who go on holiday a lot, enjoy train journeys or perhaps just for a cheaper gift. The travel version is £9.99 on Amazon.

Drags 2 Riches is a great game from a new start-up company yet you wouldn’t know it as it is such a great game with a good concept. It is perfect for families with adults or teenagers age 14+ who love all things drag. It would be an ideal gift for lovers of things like Ru Paul’s Drag Race. It is a deckbuilding style game where players build their queen’s look with an aim to be better than others! Buy it from Bored Wreckers Inc for £36.99.

What do you meme is a hilarious card game for adults in which players compete to use their cards to make the funniest and most obscure quote for an image, thus making their own meme. We love playing this as a family and I am sure your recipients will too. Check it out on Amazon for £22.99.

Don’t Get Got is a hilarious party game for older kids, teenagers and families. the guide is for ages 10+ which I would tend to agree with but some younger children might manage it, I would say if they are good at keeping secrets, they will be ok at the game! The aim of the game is secret missions, it is played throughout the day whilst doing other things so for example, whilst mum is cooking lunch can they get her to dance? Don’t Get Got is £19.99 from Amazon and is brilliant family fun.

DOG-SASTER is a fun family game perfect for ages 6+ and essentially consists of piling up the dogs without them falling over. It is harder than it looks! It is £9.50 from Oliver Bonas or £9.99 from Gift Republic.

Tension is a fun family game where players have to guess the answers in a category before they run out of time. If you are buying for a game show-loving family who like shows like Family Fortunes and scream answers to that at the TV, then they will love this game. This travel version is just £9.99 from Amazon.

If you want to buy a gift of a Christmas-themed board game then The Christmas Express Game is perfect. It is designed for families with children aged 6 + and it is a relatively simple game where players roll the dice to move around the board and the first to the North Pole wins the game. Have you seen how popular Squishmallows are? Well now they are available as a family card game! Players race to collect a full Squashmallows squad of cards. A fun family game perfect for children aged 8 and above. The game is £16.99 from W H Smiths.

For a classic but fun game for a family, why not consider Mexican Train? It is the world’s most famous domino game and players build a train with their dominos with the aim of being the first person to get rid of all their dominos! The game is suitable for ages 7+ but I think slightly younger children might manage it with supervision and support. Buy it from Amazon.

If you are buying for an adult family or family with teens aged 17+ who love murder mysteries, then this is definitely the perfect gift for them. Who Killed Mia? is a digitally immersive murder mystery game for people in the social media age with physical and digital evidence to help you uncover the killer. Who Killed Mia is available from Amazon for £29.99.

Are you buying a gift for a beach-loving family? A unique and useful gift they will get lots of use for is a beach tent! It might be something you hadn’t thought of before but how useful would it be for them? If this is the perfect gift for the family you are buying a gift for, then this one from AquaPlanet is £74.99 and is quick and easy for them to set up for a family day at the beach. If you are looking for a lovely family calendar then I can highly recommend the one from The Great British Bake Off, it is the one we use and has plenty of space (5 columns) for all the family, stickers for various events such as half term, and a handy pocket for tickets etc. It is available from Danilo for £10.99.

Christmas gifts for couples

How about buying them some new bedding? This lovely set from Terry’s Fabrics is stunning and perfect in my eyes but there really is something for everyone. Bedding makes a useful but lovely gift for a couple. This set in Superking is £95.

A lovely special gift for a couple could be a posh meal out for them to enjoy together. If they have young children you could offer to babysit for them too!
