Easy step by step instructions to make spicy sweet potato cakes
I always recommend you start by peeling your potatoes and getting all the ingredients out to be sure you have all you need.
Boil the potatoes until they are ready to be mashed.
Mash the potatoes well and add onions, seasoning, garlic and chilli powder.
Combine well to make a stiff mixture.
Mould the mixture into sweet potato cakes by making balls then gently squashing them into patties.
Fry on both sides until cooked.
The spicy sweet potato cakes are now ready to serve and enjoy.

Healthy Lunches
If you are eating healthily then you may have difficulty in finding lunches for work. This is just one of many amazing lunch ideas I have found so do check out my other recipes for more ideas.
If you take lunch then you are so much less likely to buy food which inevitably will be less healthy. Taking a variety of food throughout the week to work keeps your lunchtimes interesting and stops you from getting bored.
Even if, like me, you work alone at home it can make such a difference having your food already prepared for you. Why not give it a go and make sure you build a variety of lunches into your weekly meal plan.
Comfort eating
It is easy when you are trying to lose weight to fall into the trap of comfort eating when you are feeling down. Finding healthier snack alternatives can help you avoid weight gain.
You do not need to just snack on fruit and vegetables to be healthy there are so many other alternatives.
If you find that you are regularly feeling down and snacking then maybe you need to address this as possible depression and consider seeing your GP. We all have struggled every now and then so it really isn’t something to be ashamed of.
Another option instead of eating at all could be to find something else to do instead of eating when you are feeling down. Give it some thought and see if you can come up with any strategies to help yourself.

PrintSpicy Sweet Potato Patties – Slimming World Friendly Recipe
- Prep Time: 5 Minutes
- Cook Time: 30 Minutes
- Total Time: 35 minutes
- Yield: 6 Patties 1x
- Category: Side dish
- Method: Hob
- Diet: Low Calorie
Description
Spicy delicious patties made from sweet potato and delicious with a quiche or just as a snack.
Ingredients
350 Grams Sweet Potatoes (peeled and cubed)
400 Grams Floury Potatoes (Peeled and Cubed)
1 Red Onion (peeled and finely chopped)
2 Cloves Garlic (crushed)
1 Tsp Mild Chilli Powder
Salt and Pepper to season
Instructions
Place a saucepan of boiling water over medium heat and add potatoes. Boil for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile in a large mixing bowl mix together the garlic, red onion, chilli powder and a good amount of salt and pepper to season.
When the potatoes are soft strain well and then add to the mixing bowl and mash well combining all ingredients as you do so.
Don’t worry if the mixture is not smooth, it is perfect to leave some small lumps of potato. I use a Masha for mine.
Spray a large frying pan, to fry in batches or two frying pans if you feel you can do them all at once, with Frylight or other low-calorie cooking spray and place over medium heat.
Form the mixture into 6-8 similar size patties and fry for 5 minutes before even attempting to turn them over. If you try to turn them too soon they could break.
Depending on patty size it should take approx 10-15 minutes in total to fry a set of patties.
I used two pans and did them all at the same time but I guess it depends on what else you are cooking.
Only ever had patties from fish and chip shops in hull before. These were obviously very different and FAR healthier! Really impressed – loved the flavour 🙂
