What is pasta arrabiata?

Pasta Arrabiata is a spicy tomato sauce that originated in Italy. The word Arrabiata means “angry” in Italian, which refers to the spiciness of the dish.

The traditional sauce is made from tomatoes, garlic, chilli peppers, and olive oil. Some recipes also include herbs like parsley and basil for added flavour. The sauce is usually served with pasta, but it can also be great as a sauce for chicken or fish.

Why is this unofficial Slimming World pasta arrabiata perfect for busy mums?

The great thing about Pasta Arrabiata is that it’s super easy to make. Traditionally all you need to do is sauté some garlic and chilli pepper in olive oil, add some canned or fresh tomatoes, and let it simmer for a few minutes. This recipe is very similar.

You can adjust the heat level by using more or fewer chilli peppers. For busy mums who are always on the go, you can even prepare the sauce in advance and store it in the fridge or freezer for future use.

Why you need arrabiata pasta on your meal plan

One of the best things about Pasta Arrabiata is that it’s a healthy alternative to store-bought pasta sauces.

You can control the amount of sugar and salt that goes into the sauce, and you can also choose to add more vegetables like bell peppers or zucchini to make it even more nutritious.

Plus, the spicy kick from the chilli peppers can help boost your metabolism and digestion.

Another reason why busy mums should love Pasta Arrabiata is that it’s versatile. You can pair it with any pasta shape that you like, from spaghetti to penne to fusilli. Penne arrabiata is a popular choice but whatever you have will work fine!

You can also add different proteins like chicken, shrimp, or even tofu to make it a complete meal. The possibilities are endless!

Pasta Arrabiata is a delicious, healthy, and versatile pasta sauce that every busy mum should add to their meal plan.

Not only is it easy to make, but it’s also packed with flavours and a little kick of spice to keep your taste buds happy. So the next time you’re looking for a quick and easy pasta recipe, give Pasta Arrabiata a try. You won’t regret it!

How to make a basic tomato pasta sauce base for pasta arrabiata

I love pasta as a quick, easy meal to make without always needing a recipe. If you don’t have the time for this basic healthy pasta arrabbiata recipe or just fancy chucking something together, simply boil your pasta according to packet instructions in one pan and heat some low-calorie cooking spray in a frying pan.

Add chopped onion and garlic and fry for a couple of minutes. Then add any other vegetables you like, such as mushrooms and peppers; when they are cooked, add passata or tinned tomatoes and mixed herbs and warm through, then add to the cooked pasta. Simple but tasty!

I sometimes add some mozzarella balls to melt as it is stirred through for a cheesy extra! Alternatively, what about a sprinkle of parmesan or a vegetarian alternative to parmesan? Don’t forget to syn it, though, if you follow Slimming World!

  1. I love spice, so added a second chilli, but this recipe is quick and easy – loved it so much that I batch cooked some for the freezer too. Can vouch for it tasting just as great after being in there too!
