Midweek Catch Up 11/02/26 New
Hi again, I hope you have had a good week. Last week was the first catch-up in a few weeks, but I am back in the swing of things now, and here we are again. I have lots to share with you, so grab a cuppa and have a read.

Health Catch Up
Menopause
All is still pretty much the same in the menopause world here. I am still scatty and forget things all the time. I get randomly hot with no explanation, and I am a grumpy so-and-so sometimes. Maybe some of that is just me, but I am blaming it on the menopause too!
Mental Health
My mental health has been pretty ok lately, I am still waiting for my referral to come through for the mental health team. It could be months I think but I am hoping when it comes it will be helpful in looking at my mental health as a whole over the years and what causes my issues, and maybe even different ideas of how I can move forward, who knows.
Weight Loss
About 2 weeks ago I fell on the pavement up the road from the house. I was being healthy and making a point of walking to the shop even though it was raining. Well I slipped and completely faceplanted the pavement! Since then I have had a lot of pain in my ribs (potentially fractured but they don’t do anything with them anyway!) and the pain was horrendous last Friday so we ordered a takeaway. This week I haven’t been on the scales. I don’t want to get disheartened, so I am missing this week and being careful what I eat and hoping the scales are good next week. Given my history of obsessions and disorders around weighing, etc., I felt this was the safest option for me.
Life
After the fall I had, it made me feel old. I know that sounds crazy, but my mum said, “sorry to hear you had a fall”, and I realised people say that to older people and people laugh at younger people. Have I hit the age now where it is “had a fall”, not “faceplanted the pavement”? So, I just want to clarify, I did not have a fall, I faceplanted the pavement!
Ben is still having dressing changes and such, but is getting there with his recovery. I really didn’t expect it to go on for so long; his issues that led to the operation started last February!
Wedding planning
Our wedding planning is going really well. We have decided on most things now, so it all feels like it is coming together! I have to ask: if you are married, is there anything you regret not having, or perhaps regret spending money on?
I mentioned my something blue ladies and save-the-date cards last week, and have now written blog posts about those, so do feel free to read about them. The links are below.
Books
Last night was my monthly book club meet-up. Our genre this month was crime fiction, so that is mostly what I have been reading lately; it is also my favourite anyway! The books I have enjoyed this week, and my reviews of them are:
Guilty by Definition by Susie Dent – this was a good read, but also not overly my cup of tea. It was well written but a bit too cosy crime-like for me! I would definitely recommend it, though. Based in the city of Oxford, around the world of dictionaries and those who write them, it was interesting, and the crime story of it was good, but not something I would rush to read again or read the sequel to. 7/10 as it was well written and pretty good.
100% Match by Patrick C Harrison III (also known as PC3) – This is the most bizarre book I have ever read! It literally contains every possible trigger warning all rolled into a book you can read in maybe 1.5-2 hours! I found this quote about it, and it couldn’t be more true – “If you like your fiction sick and twisted, this one will be a 100% match for you. PC3 gives us a glimpse into the mind of the truly depraved, and despite the nature of spending time in such a nasty headspace, the story is entertaining as hell. Just don’t read it on a full stomach.” I would give it a 7.5/10 because, despite being rather depraved and strange, it was very much a page turner and I did enjoy it in a strange kind of way!
5 Tales that will land you in hell by Patrick C. Harrison (PC3 as above) – I found this one and was intrigued, given how the other book was by him. This couldn’t have been more different, but equally just as strange. Short stories you can read in about 20 minutes, they are bizarre to say the least! The first story was about a vibrator that goes crazy and literally kills someone! If you want a different and unusual read and have Kindle Unlimited, then it is free on there, give it a try! 6/10 good and did make me keep reading, but I am not honestly sure why!
Next month, it is autobiographies. I have a few to read, but would love any recommendations, especially if they lean towards crime! I am currently enjoying Remember When by Fiona Phillips, which is about her life with alzheimers. It is so sad and thought-provoking, but also really good.
