Our Favourite Slimming World sausages – a guide

Here are lots of sausages that are perfect for Slimming World you could try! Whether you love sausages for breakfast or for a hearty dinner they are a food that can be high in calories and fat. If you can find a low syn option you enjoy then it can be life-changing! There is much more choice than just the Slimming World sausages in Iceland so read on to discover other tasty options.

A wooden board filled with perfectly grilled meats, sausages, corn, red peppers, and zucchini slices ensures a delicious feast while taking care to avoid food poisoning.

Choosing the best sausages for weight loss

In general, chicken or turkey varieties are the best syn-free sausage options or try low-calorie vegetarian ones. Alternatively the Slimming World sausages from Iceland are good as they are Syn free, but many people don’t like them.

Looking for low-fat content and the lowest calories of different options can usually be a good guide if you are stuck and help you avoid high-fat sausages.

If you are eating out, choosing grilled or barbecued rather than fried will always be better. This is because the fat drips off, and no extra fat is added to cook them.

The best Slimming World friendly sausages

The only meat sausages I believe that are free are the Slimming World sausages (all flavours). However, you could use 5% fat pork mince and make your own syn free sausages using mince from the local butcher.

Heck Naked Chicken Skinless Sausages found in the chilled area of supermarkets in a 6 pack are just 0.5 for 2 sausages.

  • Lidl, there is Glensallagh Skinny Sausages found in a chilled 6 pack and 40g each so smaller than average but not a bad choice at all.

Sausages for 1-1.5 syns each

Porky Lights and Slimming World!

Porky Lights at 66g each are 2.5 syns each but you won’t find them on the Slimming World app as there were some issues with the two companies getting on a few years ago and as such they refused to include them on the database! I think they would also prefer you to buy the Slimming World sausages!

This value is worked out by putting the nutritional information into the Slimming World calculator, of course, the recipe could have since changed so always check yourself.

Suitable for Slimming World sausages – Vegetarian

As a vegetarian, I love a meal with sausages but find that some end up as more like a mixture of vegetables in breadcrumbs and just not the same. I was not keen when I tried the vegetarian Slimming World sausages and I much prefer these alternatives.

Free vegetarian sausages:

  • Linda McCartney Rosemary and Red onion Sausages though are free and delicious. I have used them to make stuffing before too. They don’t taste like red onion and rosemary, it is very much a subtle taste.
  • Aldi Plant Menu Onion & Rosemary Sausages are found in the freezers in a 6 pack.

Half-syn vegetarian sausages:

  • Linda McCartney Sausage (standard vegetarian sausages not the flavoured), chilled or frozen
  • Quorn sausage patties, which are frozen in a 4 pack. (They are said to be like the sausage in McDonald’s McMuffins!)
  • Heck Veg With Edge, Meat Free Sausages – smaller ones available from the freezer section
  • Morrisons V Taste Meat Free Sausages, (frozen 6 pack)
  • Tesco Meat Free Lincolnshire Style frozen in a 6 pack
  • Aldi Masala Roast Cauliflower Sausages

The following vegetarian sausages are all 1 syn each:

  • Heck Sweet Fusion Sausages
  • Heck Veg With Edge, Meat Free Sausages (from the fridges)
  • Heck Veg with Edge Super Green Sausages
  • Cauldron Foods Lincolnshire Vegetarian Sausages found in the supermarket fridge in a pack of six.
  • Gosh! Butternut Tomato & Basil sausages
  • Quorn frozen Cumberland sausages
  • Aldi Mae’s Kitchen range Meat-Free Lincolnshire Style Sausages in the freezer

Vegetarian sausages at 1.5 syns each

  • Sweet Potato & Black Bean with a Hint of Lime.
  • Chilled or frozen Quorn sausages
  • Richmond meat-free available chilled and frozen, both in 8 packs. They’re my favourite vegetarian sausages on the market.
  • Aldi Red Pepper & Butternut Squash
  • Lidl What’s Cooking? Meat Free Lincolnshire

Vegetarian 2 syn sausages

  • Heck Vegan Breakfast Sausage, frozen in an 8-pack, although I’ve never seen these in the shops near me!

Recipes

They are great in so many recipes. Here are just a few that go well with Slimming World sausages or their alternatives above.

  • Sausage casserole – a delicious warming meal easy to make in the slow cooker. It smells amazing, and there’s nothing quite like a good casserole when you get home from work. There is no need to brown the sausages, but you can if you prefer. This recipe freezes well too.
  • Sausage Traybake – great with less synful sausages if you fancy!
  • Spicy sausage pasta bake – full of flavour and uses your healthy a choice for cheese.
  • Sausages and chips with beans, vegetables or whatever you fancy. Simple but tasty! There’s nothing quite like this for a comforting, easy meal.
  • Mixed meat paella – one of the meats in this is sausages!
  • They would be a great alternative to chicken in my carbonara recipe.
  • Bangers and mash with a nice onion gravy

Which are your favourites? I’m no sausage expert, but these are the ones I have found and that are popular, but of course, the nutritional values vary when recipes change, so do be aware of that. I’ve tried my best with the values I’ve put but I’m not 100 per cent sure they will all be accurate when you read this post! If nothing else, they’re fairly decent guesses and will help you choose the sausages you use. Let me know in the comments if you spot any changes I need to make to the list above.
